IHE co-educational system in our high schools is re sponsible for much of the T; troubles of the younger genera tion. It is difficult to understand how such a system could ever have been developed, placing in close contact children at an age when they are most susceptible to sex attraction and when they should be surrounded with the most safeguards. But that isn’t all. There is a tendency among the gentler sex not only to demand i equal rights with men but there is an unnatural desire to acquire all male characteristics and gen eral deportment thru education. The argument that girls should have equal opportunities with boys may be unassailable. Girls should have just as much ; care and just as much attention should be paid to their education as to that of their brothers. But this education, to be successful, must naturally be different. We are dealing with two distinct | phases of nature. A girl is a creature different from a boy. Her psychology, her physical and her mental makeup (all distinguish the female from the male. She has different ideals. She has different ideas of pleasure and recreation. She thinks in-a different way and she is interested in different things. Sensible parents do not want their daughters to be “tom-boys” any more than they wish to see their sons branded “sissies.” This difference between boys and girls and men and women will exist as long as nature is per mitted to take her course. Men and women were created differ ent and they will remain differ ent as long as nature is given a free hand. , But if we believe in the truth of evolutionary biology, this i course may be changed and the time may come, if we continue I to strive for the erasure of all difference between the sexes, I when nature may follow our in sistent lead and create a woman who will in reality adopt the characteristics of man in a modi fied way." This can’t be our desire. We must want, not to distort nature, but to give her an opportunity for higher and better develop ment which cannot mean men women but which does mean bet ter women and better men. There, of course, are cranks who worship the fetish of equal ity between the sexes without comprehending that equality is DR. WEIZMANN VISITS PALESTINE; CONFERS WITH HIGH COMMISSIONER. (Jewish Telegraphic Agency) Jerusalem -Dr. Chaim Weiznionn, President of the World Zionist Organi zation. arrived in Jerusalem where a very cordial welcome was given him by the Jewish population. London T.dOO .lows- have, within tin* List throe months, fled from Constanti nople* to the* uncertain politic il conditions, according to reports whi«-h , reached fx»:ulon. THE DENVER JEWISH NEWS By VICTOR NEUHAUS Snot always equality. They do not see that to attain their vis ionary “equality” they are pull ing woman down to man’s level. There are things a separate school for girls can teach its pu pils and there is knowledge it can impart concerning the obliga tions of motherhood which can not be imparted today in the | presence of the opposite sex in our high schools. The place for our women teach ers, who have splendid ability, is in girls’ schools where they can warn, without embarass ment, of the dangers our girl : hood may encounter thru lack of knowledge. Separate schools for boys, on j the other hand, can teach all the i obligations of chivalry toward women who are not competing 'for honork in the same class much more successfully. In fact, this is the only way it can be I taught. | There is too much intimacy now. Every day it is demon strated that “familiarity breeds 1 contempt” as between the two sexes in our present school sys tem. Social intercourse, under the' proper supervision, should bo ' maintained of course between i the girls’ and the boys’ schools. I Deportment should have a high ! place in the curriculum of both for it makes for higher woman hood and manhood. Aside from the moral pitfalls of co-education, there is the phase of man’s general attitude toward woman. Many eulogies to woman have been penned by the poets of years past but we doubt if there was ever a high school boy who eulogized the girl who sat next to him in school. He knew her too well for illu sions. High school boys and girls un- 1 der the co-educational system | 1 have their love affairs, of course, ] but it is seldom the spiritual love ! which impels the male to raise his beloved upon a pedestal, to i consider her a goddess, to sur-; round her with his most noble ■ thoughts, and to find her an in-! spiration for him to become aj greater and better man. To see clearly that the co-; educational system is not one to' inspire man with poetic venera-; tion for woman, one need only I look at the countries where sep arate education is provided for boys and girls and where their moral life is grounded upon j sound foundation of mutual ad- j ] miration and respect.
