An Old Timer.
Sid Lawrenco, who drives the Lara
mie end of the Laramie-Walden stage
line, making the trip from Laramie to
Woods Landing, a distance of 27 miles,
and return has been on tho route for
thirteen years straight. A record such
|as his needs no comment. A man who
I can put in thirteen years in one position,
and especially that of driving a stage
through all kinds of weather, across the
Laramie Plains, where the wind blows
100 days out of tho year —sometimes with
a speed and force that turns over wag
ons, miles of barbed wire fence, etc. —is
deserving of more credit than a \>eu is
sufficiently eloquent to portray.
Mr. Lawrence is an old-timer. He
made his advent into this country be
fore the writer saw the light of day, and
has been through several Indian out
breaks in the early days.
Since he started driving stago, the line
has changed hands several times, but
, Sid is always ou deck, for a more con
scientious or capable man never lived,
and the ride from here to Laramie would
net seem natural with anyone else in
tho driver’s seat on his route.
Roads Were Obliterated.
On Monday Have Semple, who drives
the stage from Walden to Hebron and
Spicer, camped ou the tlats this side of
Eli Peterson’s for several hours, because
of the storm. After leaving Spicer
on his way home the storm grew so
fierce that the horses got off the road
and ran into a telephone post. Mr.
Semple tied the animals to the pdle,
blanketed them and waited until tho at
mosphere cleared up somewhat, getting
in to Walden about 2 o’clock in the
morning.
Wm. Huntington, the Higho stage
driver, staated out with tho mail for
that section Tuesday, but got off the
road, and after putting iu some time
trying to find out just where ho was,
managed to got back to town, and wait
ed for better weather.
Wm. McLucas, wh 0 is haul i ng coa
I lom the Riacli coal bank, has been stay
ing iu town this week. Wednesday
morning Bill started for Cowdrey with
four horses, intending to got a sled at
that place, to use in hauling coal, but
shortly after leaving town two of his
horses became sick from some unknown
cause and he turned around to come
hack to \\ alden. Before he got in town
to town another horse in tho team was
taken sick, and he was jmst able to get
in- The character of the sickness is
not known, and tho stale vetiuarian is
expected in shortly from Denver, to de
tnnuino tho cause.

No matter how well you can run

your pay; courtrooms and country
jails are stuffy places.
If anything disagreeable happens
