Mr. Hoover was President and Mr. Hurley was his Secretary of War. It was when the GOLD STAR MOTHERS went abroad to pay their love to the graves and tombs of the heroic dead sons. Sons who had given their last full measure of love and devotion to the causes and ideals of Democracy of America. The Colored Mothers were shipped over there with cattle in a cattle ship. No other mothers except yours were so sent. Did any one of our great Republican leaders from the President on down yield to the cry of humiliation, discrimination and ingratitude that at that time filled the very atmosphere? No. This act represented the degree of esteem and the actual distance you have come toward your equal rights and privileges you acquired from the death of Lincoln to the defeat of Taft. Is it not time to ask questions and look at the record?? G. O. P. Sends Negro Gold Star Mothers to France in Cattle Ship
