The Willard Neighborhood Club Is Feted Mrs. Lillian Henry Thrills Hearers Telling About Her Experiences While Abroad Mmes. Temple C. Dougherty and Edward T. Coleman were joint hostesses Sunday at a very delightful tea at the home of Mrs. Dougherty, 650 East 50th Place. It was for the benefit of the Willard Neighborhood Improvement Club. This was the first of a series of i entertainments to be held by the club members, working in teams of two, with the object of recruit ing new members, stimulating ac tivity, and augmenting funds with which to carry on their work. A short musical program was presented after which Mrs. Lil lian Henry spoke on her impress ion and experiences of Soviet Rus sia, Norway, Sweden, and other Eu ropean cities w’hicli she visited last summer. Mrs. Henry is a fluent speaker, and as a social worker and trained observer, her remarks bore the stamp of authority, and were highly instructive and enlight ening. The retiring president, Mrs. Ma bel Mason Greene, summarized the activities of the organization, its aims and aspirations, making a plea for the support of all who w'ere interested in the betterment of con ditions in the community in which they live. After the intraduction of the in coming president, Mr. Ira Davis, tea wTas served. A pleasant social hour was enjoyed by the large num ber who attended. Ocfio Club Plans On Cocktain Dinner at Parker The Ochos met at the home of the secretary, Mrs. C. Farmer, 5345 Prairie avenue, Thursday evening. The members completed arrange ments for their cocktail dinner which is to be given Sunday, March 7, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Parker, 4626 Prairie avenue. The members agreed to give one hundred percent subscriptions to the newspapers which give satis factory reports of their activities. Four personal representatives from the various papers wrere present. A delicious luncheon, spread on an attractively decorated table, was served to the members, Mmes. A. Leonard, C. Farmer, E. Francis, I. Parker, E. Otis, H. Ponds, T. Lee, and E. Cecil. Visitors enjoying the repast were Mrs. Hill, Miss Sarah Farmer, and Mr. F. Farmer. Next meeting with Mrs. Tena Lee, 5433 Prairie avenue, Thursday, Feb. 25. Miss Ruth Greene to Be June Bride of S. F. Bradshawe Mr. and Mrs. James A. Greene, 4925 Champlain avenue, announce the engagement of their daughter, Ruth E. M., to Mr. Stanley F. Bradshaw of St. Paul, Minn. The nuptials will be celebrated some time in June. Miss Greene graduated last June from Lewis Institute after finish ing Hyde Park High School. She is a member of Beta Chapter, Al pha Kappa Alpha sorority, and of Good Shepherd Congregational church. She is related on her mo ther’s side to the Williams family, one of the oldest in Chicago, and to which the late Dr. Dan Williams be longed. The prospective groom is connect ed with the Minnesota State High way Patrol. The couple plan to live in St. Paul. Fevelome Social Club GlorifiesSelves atDance The Fevelome Social Club made its first bid this year for popular favor when the members entertain ed with a semi-formal dance at the beautiful Bacon’s Casino Wednes-1 day evening. It was a beautiful af fair and the guests danced to the tantalizing strains of Johnny Dong’s orchestra. The members were identified by corsages of gardenias, the club flower. They are Gwendolyn Kelly, president, Florence I-»ester, vice president, Lydia Barker, secretary, Esther Lloyd, financial secretary, Vera Robinson, treasurer, Elizabeth | Wilburn, business manager, Esther Adams, reporter, Ruth Duncan, Lu cille Greer, Minnie Logan, and Juanita Robinson. The honorary members are Sue Finley, Riberta Finley', and Ora Wisdom. -• ROUND ROBIN PARTY Mrs. Katie Taylor, 4609 Wa bash avenue, gave a Round Robin Party at her home Friday evening. CHARMING VISITOR Miss Julia Moore, petite, pretty and popular member of the smart social set of Detroit, Mich., was a charming visitor here last week. She was the guest of her brother, Johnnie Moore and his wife, Mrs. Petra Hardesfy-Moore, 60 East 47th street. The trio were visitors to the Metropolitan News last Wed nesday. Defence Fund Grows Under Women’s Auxiliary of the Chicago Branch of NAACP Scarce a month old, the newly organized Women’s Aux iliary of the Chicago Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, has successfully launch ed initial action in the Associaton’s national campaign against the scourge of lynching evil in the U. S. A. Under the inspired, rousing lead ership of its President, Mrs. Dixie B. Brooks, the organization has but ton-holed with ‘‘Stop Lynching’’ but tons the greater portion of a mul ti-racial, indignant and enraged pop ulace determined to supply its quota toward the financial impetus nec essary to the passage of Federal anti-lynching legislation within the current Congressional year. Numbering slightly more than thirty-five, the organization’s new officers and committees are: Mrs. Dixie Brooks, president; Mrs. Blanche Morris, vice president; Mrs. Zaidie Mahone, corresponding secretary; Mrs. Mildred Ware-Lem on, recording secretary; Mrs. Lil lie Murray, treasurer.
