Bassett f ‘ Some eighty members responded to the special meeting held Thurs day night, Feb. 18th and all new business was completed, thus as suring the members and friends of [weekly recreational and social pro grams thru the spring and early summer season. . .Ping pong has definitely been established to the extent that the ladies and gentle men keep the table in constant use during all hours that the club is open. We are sure that we will have entrants in the next city con test that will be staged. Checkers and chess are being player regular ly by the men, champions are de yeloping rapidly. . .Sunday night fcnarked the revival of the regular Cocktail hour and some 200 per sons were present to welcome Flet cher Butler and his distinctive jtype Of entertainment. Mr. Butler Bang and played the latest songs, jthe old songs and devoted a full hour to singing and playing each request made. This great artist will [continue to entertain us during our cocktail hours, and we southsiders Should recognize the versatility of Such a man. Mr. Cecil White, guest pianist, was present and delighted the audience with his Teddy Wil bou style of swing music. We hope [Mr. White will be with us again. ji We were grateful for the return to active duty by two charter mem bers, Messrs. Sol Butler and Joe LMliard, nationally known athletes, (Who took up their stand in the re ception committee, Sunday evening. iThe entire board of directors func tioned at this affair, with the excep tion of Mr. Roy Franklin, who is confined to his bed. Mr. Franklin lives at 2926 South Parkway. All members please visit him. . .The Public Policy Committee, under the leadership of Chairman Norman (Peterson, attended the Urban Lea gue Membership Drive Monday night, Feb. lath, and affiliated them Belves with this body to solicit memberships. LADIES AUXILIARY The Saturday night affairs are getting larger and better with the passing of each Saturday night, If the men want to know the defin-| ttion of the word “cooperation,” jKhey should as the young women Who take pait in these affairs to make them successful. The com mittee appointed for these Saair fday night suppers as well as all of (the other members in the club co operate to a superlative degree. fThe past supper was sponsored by the sick committee, headed by Mrs. Delia Osby, co-workers on the committee: Mrs. Harriet Vines, pres., Mrs. C. Williams and Mrs. Marie Clark. COUNCIL GETS NEW MEMBERS The Council’s activity, in making the Community more stable in property values and other functions of a CHAM BER of COMMERCE of and for the Community, is now being impressed upon all busi ness of that area. Many prominent business firms are joining the Council and becom ing active members in this noble effort for the good of all, not only of this particular Community, but for the great good of the entire City. Mr. Lavin, the head of the Chev rolet organization, visited the headquarters after Joining, and ex pressed himself as fully in accord with the work. He said that he was glad not only to be a member, but that he would attend the meetings and take an active part in the work.
