cial responsibilities, and the task of se
curing the necessary annual income of

ficult and very exhausting to Principal
Washington. The endowiuent fund
will now yield an income of alxnit $40.-
UOO, and this income, together with
about jaO.OuO from regular contribu
tors, will leave about .SO,00 to be col
lected from the public at large. Provi
sion for the support of Mr. Washing
ton's family will relieve hiin of great
anxiety, because from his absolute self
denial ho has been unable to make any
provision for them.
"During the present period of growth
the Institution needs fully $150,000 a
year. Outside of kindergartens there
are 1.41S students whose training has
to be provided for. All the mauageru
of Tuskegee at Richmond, Va., are
anxious that the public should not be
misinformed as to the exact help the
Carnegie gift will be to those striving
to meet Tuskegee's financial needs."
