Amendment to Chapter 22, Sec. 12 of the City Ordinances. Ordinance Relat ing to the Power and Duties of Po licemen, City of Barre, Offered July (5th, A. D., UtOa. Be it ordained by the City Council of the City of Barre as follows: lhat hection 12 of Chapter 22, relating to the police de partment, be amended so as to read as fol lows: Section 12 Members of the police must faithfully patrol the streets and not stand upon the streets, or hold conversation with persons thereon, except in necessary dis charge of their oilicia) duties. Any police officer or member of the city council may arrest, without warrant, any person committing an olfence in his pres ence against any of the Ordinances of the City. Any police officer may also arrest, with out warrant upon view, any person who is found intoxicated in the City. All persons, when so arrested without warrants, must be as soon thereafter as possible, taken before a proper court or magistrate so that they may be duly com plained of and prosecuted for the offence for which they are arrested. But nothing contained in this section shall authorize the arrest, without warrant, for the violation of a City Ordinance after twelve o'clock at night on Saturday until after twelve o'clock at night of the following Sunday But arrests of persons found intoxicated may be made on Sunday as well as on other days of the week. Nothing in this section shall be construed to abridge the rignt oi a policeman or member of the City Council to arrest, without warrant, in such cases as the general law of the State permits of such arrests.
