Dr, L Bon, a well' known scientific investigator of Paris, has just made a discovery that may possibly lead to a terrible death dealing Invention, says tLe New York World. .While experi menting with the Hertzian rays in his laboratory lie was suddenly surround ed by what he describes ns a rain of fire from nil the metallic objects in the room. lie concluded from this that it would be possible to construct large metal mirrors capable of reflecting for sev eral miles the Hertzian rays which, while remalninj; invisible, would ignite any explosive substance encountered, such as shells mil pmpuwdor in mag azines and eartridsies in soldiers' belts. AYar ships would be particularly vul nerable owing to their extensive use of electricity, while torpedoes on board of them would be exploded by an enemy whom they were designed to destroy.
