The foundation for Hoyt & Lehour veau's new granite plaut at North Barre has been completed, having been put in by Wood & Gregory, and it is expected that the superstructure will be started soon, Charles Churchill being the con tractor. The plant will be 1X3 feet long and 63 wide, with an office .building out side. Most of the machinery has already been ordejred. At the meeting of the Barre Citizens' band last evening it was decided to hold a "May day" ball in Woodmen hall, Saturday evening, May 1. The proceeds from tlie ball will go to tho support of the band. A short concert will be given by the band and a large orchestra or at least twelve pieces will play for the dancing. The tickets will be 75 cents per couple, and it is hoped that everyone interested in the success of tlie band will purchase tickets. The attention of the farmers of Barre and neighboring towns is called to the advertisement this week of A. W. Allen. This idea of a delivery and demonstra tion day is a new thing here and should be attended by everybody who is inter ested in modern farm machinery, as almost every machine used in Vermont will be on exhibition and its usefulness demonstrated by aetual trial. A thoroughly appreciative, audience of (100 people greeted Enssell H. Conwell, the noted lecturer, at the opera house last evening, and heard his celebrated lecture on "The Silver Crown: or How Men Suceed." Mr. Conwell needed no introduction to the audience, as ho. has been heard here several times and is always given a large reception. For two hours he held lust audience in Tapture ovpr his wonderful oratory. He created interest at once in his subject and throughout his discourse he interspersed wit and humor that amus-ed as well as instructed his hearers.
