(Samuels, are wanted in St. Johnsbury on the charge of passing worthless checks. Charles Lathrop, for eighteen years a resident of Bristol, was accidentally killed in the state of Washington while hunting, the bunting of his gun barrel causing the accident. He was only 21 years old and a native of Austria. 05 Miss Alice Mills, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Mills of Johnson, had a nar row escape from drowning recently, while fishing. The bank on which she was standing gavo way, throwing her into the water, which wa quite deep at that point. By treading water, she was able to keep her head above until help reached her. Wliile trying out a new kerosene stove, Mrs. Etta Drake of Wheelock had quite an experience and a fire. The oven was full of beans, biscuits and other eatables and on the stove was a kettle of lard. In some manner the stove was tipped over, scattering the food and setting fire to the room. Little damage was done except to the paper on the room. Joseph Blondin was seriously injured on Fisk's quarry at Isle La Motte Sat urday, April 19. He was firing a row of shot and supposed they had all gone off, but one had not, and just as he was going by it exploded and hit him in the left side of his face. The face was terribly cut by the small stone and his left eye was badly lacerated. Joe Brooks, while working in the ash pit at the round bouse in Xewport last week Fridav, was struck on the head and shoulders by a locomotive, completely severing one ear and breaking his shoulders. During the month of March the United States geological survey classified 1,402 acres of coal land, with a valuation of $20,629. It also classified 759,011 acres of withdrawn land as noncoal in char acter. One coal-land withdrawal of 8, 826 acres was made in Colorado, Mon tana, South Dakota, and Wyoming. One phosphate withdrawal of 826 acres was made in Florida. Water-power reserves were created in California, Idaho, Xeva da, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming, amounting to 10,456 acres, and restora tion of 674 acres previously withdrawn for power sites were made in Colorado, Idaho, and Washington.
