Perritt, brother of the fireman who went into the river with his engine at ' the East Putney wreck March 30, searched the river banks from the Vernon dam to the scene of the wreck Tuesday, making the trip in a power boat. At the scene of the wreck 8 sticks of dynamite were exploded in the hope of bringing the body to the surface, but without success. John Slater is in jail at Burlington, charged with setting fire in several places in a woodlot at Essex Center, S. A. Ilrownell had several hundred cords of wood in the lot and when the fire was discovered it required hard work to ex tinguish it. .Slater was arretted, after investigation, about five miles from the woodlot. and it is alleged he was in the act of starting another fire in a sugar bush on the farm of P. T. Tomlinson when taken.
