To each boy or girl who enters into the work of the canipaiun will be given a metal badge making him or her a mem ber of the Green Mountain Guard, and to those who stay through the test will be presented by Gov. 11, F. That this may be successfully carried into effect it has been arranged that the vouiifir people who cannot afford to buy seed will have the same furnished them. Already Mr. Metzger ham assurances of enough seed potatoes for the planting, while beans enough for planting have been purchased. Other seed that may be grown will probably be handled in tne same manner. District school superintendents in many instances have agreed to do without a va cation this summer that they help in this great effort, helping the boys wher ever they can do so. Many of the teach ers in the public schools are already mak ing plans to co-operate in the summer months. Both are spending of their time NOTE. Two of Vermont's thoughtful persons have contributed specially towards the plans. A man has given a sum of money to be twed in mapping out the agricultur al work of the committee while a woman of means has given the money that Miss L, M. Cobb, who has been in charge of the domestic science in the schools of Jeffer sonville, may take charge of the canning of foods and fruits in the coming months. Sums of money can be used for similar purposes in other branch of the work. Already the department has outgrown its facilities, but this does not dampen the ardor of those who are superintend ing the movement and they will give the bovs and ljirls of Vermont an opportu nity in the coming months to show their worth to the farmers of the state. It is one of the biggest problems yet attempt ed by the public safety committee and already those in charge are commencing to see result. As the new branches de velop the problems deepen, but from Mr. Metzger, whom "r. Iiillegas drafted to direct the work among the boys and girls they as well as their parents are getting a great deal of valuable information. It has come to the attention of the di rector of food production and conserva tion that the people at large throughout Vermont arc not taking the food prodnc tion as seriously w it really is at the present time. This is one of the draw backs those in charge have to overcome and on which the director and his asso- WARNS SHIPPING OF U-BOAT. Notice Sent Broadcast After Attack on Destroyer Smith. From the educational department have been sent as many as 2,400 letters in a single day telling people in different parts of the state what is being done. These will increase as the season advances.
