John Burroughs, the naturalist, en joys "Rhymes of Vermont Rural Life," and has written Daniel L. Cady to that effect, sending his greetings and the picture of himself sitting before the fireplace. "The Old Vermont Red Cow," published some months ago, is one of Mr. Burroughs' favorites. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Franklin ob served the 60th anniversary of their marriage by a dinner party for their children and grandchildren at their home in Guilford, May 4. Among the guests was a sister of Mrs. Franklin, who also attended the wedding 50 years go. Issa Tanimura, D. C. L., of Tokyo, Japan, commissioner of live stock for the Japanese government, has been in Middlebury and Weybridge lately and has decided to have shipped to Japan 10 Morgan horses and colls from that section, also 50 head of various breeds of long wool sheep from Washington, New York and Wyoming. A 'Rutland real estate agent says that 100 houses are needed in that city to accommodate people looking for homes. Some families have had to leave because the houses where they lived had been sold and they could not find vacant tenements. More houses have been sold in the past few months than in several years, many of the buyers being forced to purchase in or der to nave a nome. Dr. Laura 'M. Flantt of Putney reached her 01st birthday anniversary Saturday. Dr. Plantr, is an honorary member of the lirattleboro chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, and a charter member of the national society. Some of the members of the Brattleboro chapter went to Putney Sunday and presented Dr. Plant some flowers. Her son, Walter Wbeaton of Columbus, has been Tier guest a few days, and will remain there until to morrow. Dr. Plantz has lived alone and done her work the past winter but she has promised her son that she will not do so "next winter. East Calais Fourth-Class Postmaster Examination.
