Both sides did not re? call that the franchise held so many rights o tio final action will be taken until some figuring lias been done by the members of the council to ascer tain which is going to be the more beneficial tu the poorer class of peo ple, for it was brought out in the meet ing last evening that the 5(l-cent Serv ice charge would be easier on those classes of people, who use a large amount of gas, than on the physicians, lawyers and such persons, who only use the gas when they want to hustle or need it only occasionally. It was alsii brought out that if the high rate is charged to the big users, then they would tfke the heating aud lighting as well as power from the electric com pany. Pursuant to the request from the city council, the gas company fur nished many figures showing that the rate ia lower in Montpelier than else where in the state and that a service charge exists in Springfield. They con tended that a minimum charge would hit the "little'' persons and would not touch a big user and that it was these persons that the company wanted to reach as well as the small users. An other meeting will be held shortly on the matter. W. (J.
