The ap- i pointment went into effect yesterday. j Mr. Stowe resigned after 13 years of f service because of the pressure of oth- !, cr business. Robert F. Wheeler of Brattleboro, who has been in the service of the Cen i tral Vermont railroad 48 years, 42 vears as a passenger conductor on the I New London division, has been relieved of that duty at his own request and ' has been made station master at the union station in Brattleboro. Miss Leola Pan Souci, a young worn fan of North Pownal, but who recently bag been living in Albany, was drowned , Monday morning while bathing with a party of friends in the Normanskill river, Albany. Miss San Souci was 21 years of age and leaves, beside her par ents, one brother of Pownal. Charles Cobb, an employee of the Hortonift Power company, was acci dentally electrocuted at New Haven Tuesday morning. No details of the accident are known definitely but it is said, that he accidentally came into contact with a wire highly charged with electricity and was instantly killed. A child at Rutland is suffering from poisoning contracted from one of the squawker balloons that are popular at present with the youngsters of the town. The public health nurse reports that the poisoning may result either from the coloring or from the rubber matter itself and recommendR that the balloons be tabooed by small children lest further cases of the same trouble occur. FARM HAND ELECTROCUTED. When He Touched Metal Fastener of Pasture Gate. New Haven, July 2. Harry Cobb, a farm hand, in the employ of C. J. Bottum of New Haven, was instantly killed about 7 o'clock Tuesday morn ing by being electrocuted. Mr. Cobb worked at the Bottum farm and board ed with family named Burgor, who lived a short distance from Bottum. When he started for breakfast, after doing the morning chores at Bottum', he drove the cows along to the pasture and closed the gate, the fastening of which was a piece of chain. Unknown to Cobb, an electric light wire had broken and fallen across a wire fence which enclosed the pasture. It is thought that Cobb either touched the chain used in fastening the gate or the fence, both of which were charged with electricity from contact with the wire which carried 2300 volts. He was found by Burgor, who was driving by, lying against the fence with one arm through the meshes. Burgor thought the man had fainted and went to his assistance and upon taking hold of Cobb he received a shock which knocked him down. He ran to the Bottum house and tele phoned the power plant at Bristol for them to shut off the current and aho notified Dr. 0. F, Edmunds of Bristol, the district health officer, who came to the scene, and, after viewing the body, ordered it taken to the undertaking rooms of E. W. Varney in Bristol. It is thought that the wire must have been down for some time as the grass in the pasture was burn,ed for a dis tance of 40 feet about where it lay. Cobb's right arm was frightfully burned as far as the shoulder. Cobb, who was about 40 years of age, came from Lincoln and is survived by hie pareuts and several brothers and sis ters. BED BUGS Bedbug- (Clmex lsctulsrius). The origin of tha name bad bus is unknown, but is tup posed to be naturally suggested, a It ia de scriptive. There are many local names for these parasites, as, for illustration, around Boston they are called "Chinches," from Baltimore cornea the name "Mahogany Flat," in New York they are styled as "Red Coat." around Pittsburgh they are called "Peaky Devils," in Cincinnati and the South "Night riders," in St. Louis and Chicago district "Crimson Ramblers, the great West "Pil grims." The old saying,. "The bedbug has no teeth, but they get there just the same," is correct. Instead of teeth they possess a piercing and suckling beak to draw and rob you of your blood for their own body. Bedbugs, no matter what you may call them, or where they came from, science ha found a way to rid them if you will use faithfully the now chemical, Pesky Devils Quietus "P. D. i." A 86c package makes one quart, enough to kill a million bedbugs, roaches, fleas, ants or cooties, and their eggs as well. P. D. Q. will not injurs bedding, and each package contains a patent spout to enable you to get them in the hsrd-to-get-at places. Impossible for Pesky Devils to exist where P. I). Q. is used.. Mr. Bedell was thrown out and bound in some way to the axle or the wagon so that every time the wheel turned the spokes hit his face. When his horse was finally stopped and Mr. Bedell was taken from the axle, he was removed to a St. Johnsbury hospital, but lived only a few hours. State's Attorney K. W. Gibson has notified Joseph C. Wednesday night's severe rain and electrical storm here reused great damage, the worst being the going out of the dam at the West .Rutland reservoir. The core dam, tight feet high, with more than an lore of water behind it, gave way, tending the mountain of water down the valley. The main bridge on the road to Ira was swept away and dailied to pieces and the highway foe 15 feet on either side was badly gutted. The going out f the dam also left West Rutland without any water for drinking pur poses or for use in case of fire. In the barns of F. F. Hall, fully two miles from the dam, the cattle were rescued just in time to save their lives, s the water was up to their necks. Mr. Hall lost about W) chickens and kens by the flood. The corn crop of Frank Burditt is also a total loss, from the rush of water, which finally poured into Otter creek. With the heavy downpour of rain came unusually severe electrical dis plays, a pair "of horses in l'oultney having been killed by a bolt, trees hav ing been struck in many instances and the power in many towns having been shut off. The sub-station at West Rutland was struck by lightning, resulting in the burning out of the transformer, and a broken wire held up street car service for three hours. "Thanks to Tanlac, I am now enjoy ng life for the first time in years," re cently declared Arthur Lebeau, fore man of the Porter Screen Co., Winoos ki, Vermont. "For five years I was a sick man. My principal trouble iwas indigestion. I had no appetite and gen erally went off to work without any breakfast because I knew if I ate any thing it would only upset me. "My condition was so bad, in fact, I could neither sleep, eat nor work with any satisfaction and was so nervous that the least thing would upset me. Xothing seemed to agree with me, and I would have severe cramping pains in my stomach and at times my heart would palpitate badly. I also suffered from shortness of breath, and the least little exertion would make my heart thump like an engine. "At last I almost decided I would give up my job, as I got so w k and miserable I felt I could stand it no longer. "One night as I sat reading a paper I saw a statement about Tanlac which convinced me it was just. the medicine I needed. It helped me from the very first dose and at the time I had finished mythird bottle, I hardly knew myself. "I never fcate the slightest symptom of indigestion now, and I feel like a brand new man in every way. My appe tite is splrndid, my nerves are steadied and I sleep soundly at night. The work I used to dreed now seems eay for me, and I am now in the very 'fink of condition.' Of course, I. am only too glad to recommend this medicine."
