A pitchers' battle between Newton of V aterbury and Ford of Moretown, with the latter winning out by the score of 4 to 3, waa the exciting end ing of a perfect baseball day. "Doc" Newton had the goods and delivered them, but his teammates got him into hot water by being unable to handle the drives off the Moretown boys' bats, while Ford worked on all four and with the smoothness of a Cadillac. Though he was hit safely more times than Newton, lie kept his hits well scat tered and with the assistance of his teammates, they were able to hold Wa terbury at bay. Home clever fielding by Gilmore and Davidson contributed to the after noon's excitement. Bisbee carried off the batting honors for Moretown, while Eagan led the way for Waterbury, but Eagan spoiled hie afternoon's work by making three boots, much to the amusement of the Moretown royal rooters. Moretown scored in the first inning. Irons drove one too hot for Luce to handle. He was sacrificed to second and scored on Grandfleld's line drive. Two more were added in the fifth. 'An error by Robinson, letting Marr on, started the fireworks, then Bisbee singled and both advanced on a passed ball. Ford then laid down a perfect sacrifice, scor ing Marr. Bisbee scored on Clerici's boot. Grandfield ended the inning by hitting to Newton. The winner came in the eighth. Davidson kissed one to deep center only to have Lease seal it. Young then singled; "Marr sacri ficed. Bisbee then came across with his second hit, thus scoring the win ner. Waterbury 's scoring: Eagan got in on an error, Gilmore singled, Randall Hied out, Robinson hit, scoring Eagan. Lease then hit, scoring the other two runners, Luce flied out and Clcrici ended the argument by hitting to Ford. The Moretown team has won three games so far, including the fast Gran iteville aggregation, while it lost one on its southern trip to the fast Wa terbury Center college of Dowsology. Moretown lines up against three fast teams in the next four days. The line-up: Moretown. ab r liurv 2: wild Ditch. Newton; struck out by Ford 12,v Newton 7; umpires, Elwoo'd and Ferris.
