THE BARRE DAILY TIMES, BARRE, VT., THURSDAY, JULY 8, 1920: ABOUT THE STATE Hspptnlnjs of Interest travt Different Section. i The average number pf tickets sold at the Rutland railroad station is 1,500, ; but in 24 hours Sunday and Monday wore than 5,000 were sold. Miss Clarinda Grpofj, for 45 years a , boxmaker for the Bennington Taper Bos company,, resigned laat week and I will retire from active work, i , t Miss Cecelia Carrigan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. tarrigan of Pitts ford, and Thomas F. Mctiarry, son of 'Mr. and Mr. J. C. McGarry of Rut- land, have just announced their roar I riage, which took place some time ago, S while they were attending the Uni Lversity of Vermont. Mrs. McGarry fgraduated in June and Mr. McGarry is a junior in the medical department. Richard Furdy of Woodford, an engi neer, employed by Dexter Gleason of ?4hat place, was seriously injured Mon- day, when his motorcycle left the road an'd passed under a railing, the latter j striking Mr. I'urdy in the etomach. Machine and rider went down a 20-foot bank to another street. It is thought . that his spleen or liver were ruptured, as he has suffered internah hemmor irhages. He has been too low to operate on as yet. He is 28 year old and has fa wife. A decree of foreclosure involving first mortgage bonds to the value of about $56,000 against the Columbian corporation, predecessors of the United j Marble companies in Rutland, was j handed down Tuesday morning by ' Judge Stanley C. Wilson of Chelsea. The Columbian corporation conducted the plant for some years. There are 28 persons, besides the eorporation, named in the foreclosure petition. Eight persons escaped death In an automobile accident irt Middlebtiry in what seemed ft miraculous manner July 8 A new Hudson car, owned and driven bv John Dyer of Middlcbury, locked Wheels with a Hupmobile, driven by William 'Rogers. The Hupmobile Stopped almost instantly when struck, the other ear, said to have been travel ing very rapidly, went 50 feet and bur ied the forward end in a corn field. One forward wheel was broken and the, (pokes gouged a deep furrow in the mnA " - f V a moftiin travolod m-rrWi " it to the field. A boy was with Mr. Dyer , . i. i - t 1 n tne iiuason ana witn air. xvogns were his mother and three children. No one was- even scratched in the accident. DAIRYING INTERESTS HEALTHY. Blooded Stock on the Increase in Ver mont. That the dairying industry of Ver mont ia in a healthy and growing con dition is indicated by the results of a survey of the surplus registered cattle in the state recently completed by John A. Hitchcock, specialist in dairying of the extension service of the University of Vermont. Returns were received from 118 breeders and show offerings of approximately 900 animals belong ing to the four leading dairy breeds. A wide range of price is shown, some nl bo mi'malii hoi no- hacked bv sevural generations of advanced registry or register oi mem recorus. in keeping, however, with the fact that over whelming majority of Vermont breed ers of purebred eattle are practical dairymen rather than fanciers, the greater number of the eattle are at tanners' prices. Of special interest is the fact that there are offered for sale several bulls whose daughters have been, tested, the final measure of the worth of a sire. Lists of the animals for sale have leen placed in the hands of the coun it agents for use in the "pure bred aires campaign" and are on file in the office of the extension aervice. - Full information can be secured by anyone interested by writing to the extension specialist in dairying.
