The same Bight lightning killed a horse in the barn of Frank LeClair in Morgan, the ' horse being tied near an electric wire. i Four hundred baseball fans gathered at Brattleboro Sunday to see Brattle boro and a team from Proctor play were disappointed at the failure of the Proctor team to arrive. No expla nation of the failure to appear was made by the management of the Proc tor team. The crowd went home. For taking the Ford car belonging to Harold H. Harvey in St. Albans last Friday, Louis Touchette, Raymond Pashby and James Houston, soldiers at Fort Ethan Allen, were jentenced in St. Albans city court to not less than two years in state prison at Windsor. The men were caught in Richford. Jounced off the runningboard of an automobile which lie had boarded with a view of stopping two Massachu setts peddlers whom he suspected of ' stealing, Howard Rice of Somerset picked himself out of the road, unin jured, ran to his door yard, got his own automobile and started in pur suit. He found the abandoned ma chine of the two men about three miles down the road, and in the ma chine he found 25 volume! of the origi nal prints of the Vermont Law re ports, which are very valuable, the books having been taken from a house owned by Mr. Rice. The abandoned ma chine, a truck bearing the Massachu setts number B3."5, was taken to a garage in Wilmington, where it is be ing held. The peddlers went through Wilmington last week and from Tues day to Friday one house a day was the record of burglaries. VERMONT POTATO CONFERENCE. TO AUDIT STATE BOOKS. Vermont Academy Receives $100,000 and Is Promised $150,000 More. Announcement of a $100,000 gift to Vermont academy at Saxton's River with virtual promise of a further sum of $150,000 by the northern Baptist convention was given out at Bellows Falls Saturday, following a meeting of the trustees of the institution. Cou pled with the confirmation of the in tention of the board to re-open me academy in September, 1021, the ap propriating by the northern Baptist body was accepted here as a guarantee that the school closed because of lack of fund! in 1016 and will re-open next year- ... Plains are under way lor tne con struction of a dormitory building to replace the structure burned in 1910. The sum appropriated by the northern convention was awarded with tne pro vision that it would be used for build ing purposes but is not to be applied to the old debts of the school. The building is intended for a boys' dormi tory as the school will re-open as a co-educational institution. The girl students are to occupy Jones Hall. Committees were appointed to super vise the work of preparation for the opening. The committee on teacher s name consist! of ex-Governor W. W. Stickney, Ludlow, Owen D. Gray, Cav endish, and Dr. W. A. Davison, Bur lington. A building committee was appointed, made up of Dr. W. A. Davi son of Burlington, Walter B. Glynn and Dr. F. L. Osgood of baxton s River. Henry L. Bolles of bpnngneld, Mass., one of the prominent benefac tors of the Saxton i Kiver academy was among the trustee! present at the meeting.
