M Arena II Rowland, the eighteen year old son of Mr. Bennett Row land, of McCallera station on the Iialeigh ADd Soutbport IUilroad and in Wake County, was shot and mor tally wounded Sunday afternoon by liowden Black, a sixteen year old boy. Black did not attempt to get away, and in a ehort time after the shooting was placed under arrest and committed to jail by Justice of of the Peace J. K. Btevens. The physicians attending young Row land tay there ia no hope whatever of his recovery. The facts are reported as follows: Black met a younger brother of Mar-hall Rowland near the station at McCullers and asked him where he could get pome whiskey. The boy replied he did not know, and it is said that his remark made Black angry resulting in Black slapping young Rowland. The boy went home and told his brother of the way Black had treated him, and Marshall Rowland went to the de pot to fcea Black about it. When he arrived Black waa sitting on the edge of a fiat car and is said to have fired on Rowland without any provocation whatever, giving as his reason afterwards that Rowland ap proached him with his hands in his pockets and he thought he was pre paring to shoot him for slapping his (Rowland's) brother.
