LipiT licenses having been granted by the town to the following persons and all the taxes having been fully paid, it is now, on motion, ordered that license for the retail of spirituous, vinous ar.d malt liquors issue to Barbee fc Thompson, Mangum street; Robert Pool, Parrish street ; T. II. Scoggins, corner Mangum and Peabody streets; J. II. Geer, Pea body street; A. W. Douglas, Mangum street; A. J. Ellis, Church street ; Deavers A: Norwood, Mangum street ; R. C. E. creek, near Ilopson's and report to this board whether a bridge is needed and where. A. J. Carroll presents a complaint ask ing for a reduction in the valuation of 110 acres of land. After investigation it is ordered that a drawback on $1S0 be given him and that the value of the land be reduced to $700. The petition of J. C. Angier asking nlief from poll tax is refused. The report of F. D. Markham of the taxes collected for December is presented, received and ordered recorded. Ordered, That a warrant for $76.74 isue to the sheriff, it being the amount f taxes of J. Soutbgate & Son, and being paid ,y premiums on insurance on the 'm house. Ordered, That a drawback on poll tax issued to Ed Bradsher, colored, on amount of sickness. Ordered, That J. 1). On motion, the bond is approved, ac cepted and ordered to be recorded, Messrs. Stokes, Perry, Ilolloway and Massey be ing present and voting affirmatively. Malinda Wilkins petitions in writing asking a reduction in the valuation of her land. After examining the witnesses it is ordered that a drawback on $200 be granted to Malinda Wilkius and that the valuation be reduced to $700. The railroad commission having just returned the amount of the apportion ment for Durham county of the property of the Pullman Palace Car company, as $3,078, the clerk is directed to list the same on the tax books for 1801. R. 13. Boone, Esq., is unanimously elected county attorney for the ensuing year. On motion the followidg persona con tinued on the list of outside poor and allowed the amounts opposite their names.
