Thrjn years ago t lie tlien board of coinniissioner.s was confronted with a debt of $13,500, represented by notes of the town bearing 8 per cent interest. After two rears of service live ol the seven members of the bo .ir J retired. During these two years from Hay 1, 1801, to May 1, 180o, the board paid for the lot, built and equipped the fire house at a cost of $ ",500. . It put irTa sewer that cost $-1,000. It reduced the interest bearing debt from 813,500, May 1, 1801, to $11,000, May 1, 1803. It. left a cash balance in the town treasury of $6,100. Tiiis present board has gotten rid of live of the six thousand dol lars they lowml in the treasury. They begun with 80,100, they now have S07T. AVith this $5;000 we may give them credit for i educing the intercut bearing debt from $11, G00 to $10,400 or say $1,200. liut we mu-t charge them with having received from the D. k N. railroad as a dividend paid the town, $3,000, a piece of iood luck that had never fallen to any preceding board. We very much doubt if Manguni street was the street that most needed paving (?) or that it was the will of any considerable portion of the people, let a'one a majority, to begin work in that way. It is stated again that the court house ticket is the ''Regular Ticket " Well, we agree that in some re spects it is about as regular as any ticket wc have ever seen put out. It was regularly hatched in a certain well-known office in town; that in order to give it imaginary tone it was thought prudent to call for a convention of the citzens; that over 200 tickets were written and pre pared with the names of the identi cal seven thereon, who were nomi nated with harmony so ominous, and that these tickets prepared, cut and dried were on hand to be distribu ted so that there would be no possi ble slip up in "the slate." That this was exactly the case and to prove that the ticket was regular in all respects we refer to the fact that The Globe published the ticket ex. actly as it came out the evening be fore the so called mass meeting. Yes it was regular, it was too regular, and now some of the workers for that regular ticket say they must support it because it was nominated (?) by the so called mass meeting. One gentleman had been told he would be nominated and he went there to prevent it, when behold, the ticket was published before the meet ing met this name was not in the list, nor was it even mentioned in the meeting. We need not say he 1 'smells a rat." Yes, it was regular. Wc know of no more appropriate name to call them than the Regulators and we hereby name the ticket nominated by the mass meeting of citizens (?) The Regulators. It was not entirely regular, how ever, to vote the military company a sum of money last Monday night when the company had not asked for it and did not need it just at this time. This appropriation is a most just one and i made annually, but hitherto has not been made on the eve of an election, with all the mem bers of the board candidates for re election. This is what "The Regu lators'' did, however, as the record will .-how it. adv World's Columbiau Exposition Will be of value to the world by illustrat ing the improvements in the mechanical art and eminent physicians will tell you that the progress in medicinal agents has been of equal importance, and as a strengthening laxative that Syrup of Figs is far in advance of all others.
