SERIOUS STRIKE OX THE RIVER FROST POZZOOTS DitHculties lie t ween White and lllack Strewinen Promising; to Terminate in a DUastrous "War The 'Vi Strike Recalled, Xew Orleans, October 20 The screwmen have inaugurated a strike on the river front. -Yesterday during the forenoon every member of the organi zation put down his tools, and work was at an end. The trouble grows out of the recent difficulties between the whites and blacks. The white and black org-anizatio.is parted company some time ago. snd a fortnight back the white screwni'-n held a meeting and decided not to work any long-er for ship agents or other employers of negro labor. No tices to this effect were sent to ship brokers and to all parties inter ested. The result was that many of tin; negroes were knocked off. Yester.lay every ship loading in the port was stopped and all hands laid off. Tin trade of the port is for the time being practically paralyzed, and the o"d trouble that has been fomenting for weeks has developed into what really promises to be one of the most disas trous labor disputes that New Orleans has experienced since the great strike of November. 1802. MAY POOL THEIR ISSUES. Plate Glass Manufacturers .Meeting Ouietly at Pittsburg:. Pittsburg, Pa., October 20. The plate glass manufacturers of the United States have been quietty meeting in Pittsburg for the past few days. Among those present were George W. Chase. president of the Charleroix company: E. II. Hitchcock, president of the Crys tal glass company, St. Louis; A. L. Conger, president of the ICokomo Plate glass compan3'. and the representatives of the local companies. Uusiness is badly demoralized, and the manufac turers wanted to see what could be done to hold up rates and the trade. It was the sincere wish of a majority that the old combination or pool be restored. Nothing was done, but the indications are that another association will be formed. ONE AND THE SAME PERSON. Morganfield, the Train Kobber, Proves to be t'lias. A. Morgan, of Missouri. Neeleyville, Mo., October 20.- Chief of Police Flanagan, of this city, suspected when he read of the capture of Morganfield, one of the Virginia train robbers, that he was really Chas. A. Morgan, who has made his home here with his young wife for the past two years. The chief s suspicions was confirmed by the receipt of a photo graph of Morganfield, showing that he and the robber was one and the same person. The train robber was in the habit of leaving his home for a month or two at a time. He departed the last time nearlv two months aro and not even his wife knew of his whereabouts THEATRE MANAGER ARRESTED The Charge Was the "Public Display of Indecent Pictures." Chattanooga, Tenn., October 20. Paul Albert of the Chattanooga opera house, one of the best known theatrical manag-ers in the south, was arrester yesterday charged with "publicly dis playing indecent pictures." The police had prohibited the display on the bil boards of the lithograph of a girl in blue tights, brought here by Hoyt's "Black Sheep' company. He persisted and the arrest followed. The trial is set for Monday. Manager Albert yes terday sued the Evening Press for go.000 damages for libel in publishing articles injurious to the business of the theatre. THE GIRL DIED IN AGONY.
