The situation as it shapes up today was outlined In the following sum mary. made public by S. B. The schools 1 have been run six months by the State, and the funds for the seventh month are as follows: Cost Os one month u sl*.Bßb7b In the Citterns Bank j and Truet Company there is >13.675. I the county commtesdoriers oan bor row 8b per cent of uncolleoted taxes, which is ffc794.58. Total for seventh mooth. 919.Md.58. “The above practically takes care of the seven til month which closes on April 8. “The funds for the eighth month arc as follows: "When t> he eighth month is Com pleted. rhe State will send to the county the State’s prorata part of the extended term cost, based on the per centage o# the extended term taxes HENDERSON, (N. C.,) DAILY DISPATCn. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 23 1532 collected; 'by the county. TTie County has provided for to Onto. lndwWf the >6,704.58 Che commissioners are authorised to borrow, 73 percent of the extended term taxes. The State's total appropriation for the extended tbroa is l&ttfft. Bevewtyfefcree per cent of this amount ts $6,006.23. The Local Government Conaamanlon will permit the commissioners to borrow five percent of Its total budget for schools, which ts $4,996 > and Include this Item in next year's budget, and apply same to tile cost of rhe eighth month, wfeicfc Is $4,900. Total avail able funds for eighth month. $11,086 “The sum of $3,270.05 of the five percent borrowed against next years budget is a shortage Hi the present year’s budget, due to the fact that the 17 cents tax levied will not produce the cost of the two months extended term. (The IT cents levy, It Was said by Mr. Rogers, will not produce the budget estimate because of heavy re bates and revocations of property made in the adjustments that follow ed the quadrertnlai revaluation held last summer.) “Coat of eight month, sl*Bß9. Amount provided for the eighth month on the above calculation Is $11,086.23. Amount needed to complete the eighth month, $8,802.77. “To offset the deficit of $8,802.77 for the eighth month, the following amounts are given: Retained by the State until all taves for its extended term are collected Is, $2,254.77; in First National Bank. $8.5T6: twenty percent uncollected taxes. $1,066. Sur plus on the above calculation, if funds are realised as stated, $1,720. Total *10.522.77. “Therefore, from the above state ment, if the schools run the eighth month, the teachers will receive only one-half month’s pay at the end of the eighth month, and the remainder of their salaries when the balance of the taxes are collected and the amount is received from the State and the sum in the First National Bank is paid into the school funds. "If the people of the county will come forth and pay their taxes, this will enable the schools to realize on the funds provided by the State.” It is too difficult to think nobly when one thinks only to get a liveli hood.—Rousseau. msm. : TtScKtS. <S©er*TK |Jt O’CLOCK wmsTLt, »OTTWI€_ rid-CK UM«H- I D *bo -TviK e.PsT «l Scott j HiT-Tht /TO PIJRCEAPENNV OftA t CORK A i CORK NICKEL wrTH A NMDLE - I W M BuJy?
