Lucy Closs Parker Society Has
Interesting Meeting on Monday
The April meeling of the Lucy Closs
Parker Missionary Society of the First
Methodist church was held in the
home of Mrs. J. H. Cheatham last
Monday, with Mesdames S. H. Wat
kins. S. S. Ferebee, J. L. Currin, L.
M. Bullock, Horace Robinson. I. H
Hoy lee and Effie Morris as assistant
hostesses.
In the absence of the president,
Mrs J. H. Tucker, the meeting was
presided over by Mrs. H. M. Lewis.
The regular routine of business was
taken up. The sunshine committee re
ported two visits to the hospital, one
Easter basket taken to the hospital,
a gift to Mrs. Norman Holloway for
her haby, a pot of flowers to Mrs.
Nathan Green and an Easter greeting
to Miss Closs Peace.
The social service committee re
ported $76.67 spent for charity during
March.
The leper contribution amounted to
$2.44 and the regular dues paid of
$19.75.
Girl Musicians
Os High School
Offer Program
The Henderson high school girls’
Glee Club and Orohestra will present
its annual spring concert in Centi-ai
school auditorium tomorrow evening
at 8:15 o'clock.
The Glee Club is under the direction
of W. B. Harrison, with Miss Maxine
Taylor as assistant, and Mrs. I. W.
Hughes in charge of the orchestra.
These concerts are usually well at
tended by the music lovers of the city.
A cordial invitation is extended to
the public, and there will be no ad
mission charge tor the concert, it i
announced.

A number of his friends were pres
ent. After enjoying many games to

tess in the dining room, where cake,
pickle, and home made candies were
served. Color scheme, pink and white.
They all departed about 10:30 hoping
his mother would invite them back
for another birthday party.

Little Ruth Stovall, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. E. W. Stovall who has
been sick with pheumonia is better.

A letter was read frym the orphan
age thanking the holies for the spring

A letter from Superintendent Barnes
at the Orphanage was read, asking
the ladies of the church to send him
ull wrappers from Octagon soap pro
ducts, staling that the company had
made him a most liberal offer for the
same.
The ladles were urged to attend the
district zone meeting in Franklinton
Friday afternoon from 2 to 4 o'clock
and to attend the conference to be
held in Wilson April 19 through 24.
The afternoon's program was on
China, and Rev. W. C. Cummings, of
the Presbyterian church, who served
as missionary in China, gave a most
interesting talk on the mission work
there. The ladies felt quite fortunate
to have one so personally related with
the work to tell them all about it.
Ice cream and cake were served
during the social half hour that fol
lowed the meeting, which was en
joyed by all the members present.

Chapel Hill, April 7.—A grbup of
Republican students met in Gerrard
Hall Tuesday night and organized the
University Republican Club, to awak
en interest in politics and the Repub
lican cause. John A. Wilkinson was
elected chairman; ICpB. Fleming-
Jones, vice-chairman; and \lnttan -D.
Wijpslow, secretary and treasurer. A
publicity committee composed of
James H. Baley, Stanley Patti diall
and John Butler was appointed and
i.incted to cooperate with the chair
man in securing leading, representa
tive Republicans to speak on the
campus.
