State College Professor Gives Depression Remedy nail? DUpnlrto R«rn*, In ftor Sir Walter Hotel. MY J. <•. HtSHKItYII.r. Raleigh. May 28. -One of the pre dominant causes of the depression Is th etremenduus increase in the cont of dollars and that business and gov ernments, as well as Individuals, are now virtually having to, pay back two dollars for every dollar borrowed be fore the depresalon started. Dean B. F Brown of the School of Business Administration, State College, said here today. “The depression is rtothihg more than the name we have given to the lack of adjustment between the num ber of dollars available and the num br of dollears neded, and it will con tinue until we can bring about a re adjustment to get a balance again between the supply of money and the demand for it," Dean Brown said “At the present time, the cost 6f money Is high, the dollar being worth about $1.90, while before October, 1929, it was worth only about 70 cents. “As long as the demand for dollars exceeds the supply needed for carry ing on normal business activities, tjie dollar remain high. "There are three wuys to secure a readjustment of the supply of money to the demand. One is start the print ing presses, print enough money to correct the balance and bring the price >of the dollar down through in flation .A second is partially inflate and partially decrease the amount of indebtedness -In other words, cut some from both ends. The third Is to scale dwon all debts, bonded and otherwise, so that the dollar at Its pre sent value will pay off an equal amount of value. I favor this last plan, since it would work less of a hardship on those who have borrow ed since the depression started. It is perhaps the more difficult, because of the legal technicalities Involved, but Is decidedly the fairest plan for re adjusting conditions, and getting a balance between the supply and de mand for dollars. May 28 —(APl—Despite denials .the belief persists in well informed baseball circles that Dr. George Herman Ruth will be sent to Boston soon to treat a mighty sick bail club, the Red Sox Some of the more enthusiastic sup porters of the Ruth-to-Boston plan claim the Babe will go to the Hub City next season as playing manager If the New York Yankees win the pennant this year. They maintain there is nothing fan tastic about the proposal because (1) the Babe wants to become a manager as soon as possible; (2> there is little chance of his piloting the Yanks, and Boston is his next choice; <3> Colonel Jacob Ruppei owner of the Yanks, is understood to be interested financially in the Boston outfit, and probably would approve the transfer if New York takes the pennant this season HOME COMING DAY TO BE FAIR WEEK Raleigh, May 28.
