Edlfor-ftt-Chlef SUNRISE se:rvice Several years ago Prof. J. A. Woodward, our principal, planned a community sunrise service to be held in the school auditorium on Ahanka giving morning. This servee has since become an annual event, and is one of the most Inspiring services held In the community throughout the year. Those who attend these service* ar« enabled to catch the real spirit of Thanksgiving. ' This year a short program was given by the pupils, followed by a Thanks giving address by Rev. S. E. Mad dren, pastor of Liberty, Vance Chris tian church. An unusually large crowd was prespnt. an dfelt richly repaid for the effort they put forth to be present at so early an hour. Through the interes tof Dr. R. F. Yarborough in our health and well being, we had the pleasure of hearing an instructive talk by Dr. A. F. Shands. Orthopedic Surgeon of Duke 'University, on Wednesday, November 123rd. The subject of the talk was "Posture.” and by the use of charts to illustrate his remarks, we were able to understand the importance of maintaining a correct posture, not only on account so our appearance but for its effort upon ©«r*general health. Our principal Is paying especial attention to Fdekjre thsl fear, and if we will follow Dr. Shande’ instruction and "sit tall" and "stand tall" we wil lbe naking an investment in health for which we will be thankful in the years to come. We tha>'k Dr. Yarborough for making this talk possible. Dr. L E. Smith, president of Eton Ciollege, who has recently been in the community attending the' Eatsern North Carolina Christian Conference, made a talk in chapel on Tuesday, November 22. He is an eloquent, forceful speaker and the talk was enjoyed by all who had the privilege of b#iifk “present. It was a distinct disappointment to many In the com munity that the urgent necessity of returning to the college prevented Dr. Smith from holding the service as planned on Wednesday night. Novem ber 23, at Liberty-Vance Christian church. WHO’* WHO IN THE SENIOR CLASS (Continued) D. T. Hayes is the baby of a latge family, but for all that is not spoiled, and has done his school work with credit to himself. French is D. T.'s hobby, and his present intention is to spend a year In France to perfect his pronunciation. We would all like to be present at his first "French date,” especially Prof. Crawley. Henrv Dickerson is a graduate of : Ingleslde school, and if he was as i good a student in the elementary grades as he has been since entering f high school, we feel sure he must have ' been “Teacher’s pet.” Henry is prob ■i ably the best read boy in the class. • He plans to locate in the “peanut" section of North Carolina If the de * preeaion continue*. Ruth Journegan 1* * verty attrac- tive member of the class and is un spoiled by the many compliments she received. If Ruth only had c. little conceit we would expect her to prove a worthy successor to Greta Garbo, but Ruths 'ldle moments are spend in dreaming of Bearpond rather than of Hollywood.* Ruth, we sympathize* with you in making your decision. Ernestine Medlin left the class two years ago while living in Wake Forest and Raleigh, but was happy to return to us and was welcomed by the class. At present Ernestine is debating In her mind whether to Specialize in ; higher mathematics, to enter Duke Training School for Nurses, or become a resident of the Bobbitt cohfmunity. HAIKKUHLt Raleigh, Dec. l.- Whh hunting sea sons in full swing and game, parti cularly upland species, reported to be present in greater abundance than for several years, officials or uie Depart ment 01 Conservation and Develop ment reported today a rush for li censes after rather sluggish sales at the opening of the hunting periods. Although remittances from selling agencies have come In rather slowly at the first of tbe season, the recent rush is taken as a promising indi cation that this season's sales may go beyond those of last year, when a slump was experienced. Total hunting license sales for the season of 1981-32 amounted to $128,- 913, with fur dealer's licenses bring injr in $3,805. a grand total of sl3l - The following number of huatliy license* of the various classes were J"22? l * at yeat; county * «wn; 18.700; and 072, noa ilßldsat.
