DAILY DISPATCH, WEDNESDAY MARCH 29, 1933 Star Outfielder Delayed by Illness; Infield And Re„ serves Strong Frank Mills, heavy hitting Bulldog outfielder, put in his appearance at 'he regular drill being had for the high school baseball squad yesterday This boy has been jinxed by illness, having been kept off their basketball 'earn, on which he was a star per former, by an operation and, now, an other illness delayed his baseball practice. He is one of the smoothest fielders that Coach Powell will have cavorting in his outer gardens and is a herd hitting man at the plate, his swats often going for extra bases. Rowland “Unk” Turner is, the only other veteran fly chaser. Although the coaches have made it clear to the players that no man has a position cinched on the team, the regulars of last year will be hard to replace. Coach Merritt, who has charge of th e infielders, is well pleas ed with his crew, all seasoned men who have been under fire a good deal His present lineup around the has socks looks mighty good with J. Mills on first, ‘ Rip” Rogers at second, Bill Scoggins, at short and “Dub” Stain back, at third. All of these men han dle themselves well at their positions and are mighty good hitters. Tlie high school will nave a good bench team, that is a team of reserves that will b e mighty strong and hard to handle. These boys will be bat tling hard for positions on the re gular nine all the time and will see plenty of action if any one of the veterans falter in their drive. Plenty of pep is being showned by the entire squad and the mentors are well pleased with the prospects for a good season. Schools Section Not Yet Reached* (Continued from rage one.; about the public schools- Some main tain that if the Senate will stick to the committee bill appropriation for the six months school term, there is still a possibility—but a very slim possibility—of raising enough revenue to balance the budget without any form of sales tax. But it is agreed by almost every member of both houses that if it is decided to make pro viijs.’lon 'for a Stjia<le supported, ciight months school term, that a sales tax will have to bo adopted. The belief is general in both houses that .the'Senate will make provision for an eight months school term in the appropriations bill, along with the many other changes it lis making in the bill as passed by House. But there" is consideimj?Le difference of opinion as to whether it will provide an appropriation of $16,000,000, as the more ardent friends of the schools, advocate, or $15,500,000, as advocated by those who think this amount suf ficient.
