There are other members taken from the State officials, including tVe governor, lieutenant governor, State superintendent of public instruct;*; and the State treasurer. As none of these functionaries is a woman ih* women over the State feel that two members of their organizations on the State School Commission would nc be too many. Old heads in politics see. however prospect of oppositio nto women on the ground that a more rigorous eco nomy is necessary now than ever and that the women’s organizations are .too wholeheartedly committed to the professional schoolman’s view {■ make good members. It is adm.bed 1 by everybody that the women pro [ posed stand very high. Both Mrs. Hobgood and Mrs. Henderson gave themselves unreservedly to the cam paign for a neight months term bu. their plan was not altogether that finally adopted. Governor Gardner appointed sev eral women to prominent position and made Mis. T. W. Bicketf president cf the North Carolina Railroad. Gov ernor McLean made Miss El.zabeth Kelly a member of the State Board of Equalization, and Governor Gardner replaced her with a man.
