Us. 1:3 Commission. £,cn*ehred to high jit camps during the month, 230 v/ere “nights of the road” sent up for hoboing. The next largest number was 199 ' convicted and sentenced for being drunk or drunk and disorderly, while i 67 were sent up for assault, 29 for l larceny, 10 for possession of whiskey, 5 for driving an automobile while dirunk, 5 for gambling, 7 for carrying concealed weapons, one for cruelty to animals and 24 others on miscellan eous charges. Most of those sentenced for hobo ing were arrested by railway police, and ccme from the army of unempoly , ed constantly moving from place to * place by “bumming” rides on freight trains. A majority of these are boys still in their teens, although some of them are older. A majority of them also are from other states. “The majority of these boys sen tenced for hoboing are really not bad cr vicious, but principally just down cn their luck,” according to Super visor J. B. Roach. “There are some tough birds in the batch, of course— Icld t’mers who have been hoboing fc: years in an effort ta.keep from doing any real work. But most of ( them are willing to work and would have worked if they had been able ] to get jobs. They have given us very little trouble in the various prison camps and most of them are good workers.” The State does not get very much work from the 30 day prisoners, how ever, since so much time is needed to get them outfitted with clothes and in the necessary physical condition, Roach pointed out. i Dispatch WANT ADS Get Results GOOD PROMPT* No embarrassing odors E fJ ICE ' clothes w e clean.
