Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to the whole creation.”) By DR. ALVIN E. BELL Twelve years had passed since our Lord ascending into heaven had com missioned his disciples to “be wit nesses unto the uttermost part of the earth,” and the church was st>!l hug ging the shore of the Mediterranean sea, having reached out to Antioch in Syria, scarcely 300 miles from Jeru salem. Antioch had the mission spirit of Christ. It was wonderfully blessed in its spiritual leadership having in its membership "prophets and teachers •and Symeon and Lucius, and Man naen and Saul.” But its dominating force was centrifugal rather than cen tripetal. So it gladly acceded to the command of the Holy Spirit, “Separate me Barnabas apd Saul'for the 'work. whereun’-o‘l haye called;them. It was a joutney that was to take Paul and Barnabas through Cyprus and the heart of Asia Minor for the next five or six years, by land and sea some 1,- 500 mile?, through perilous mountains and hostile cities. No church ever la>d upon the altar a richer missionary of fering, nor one that meant more in self-d.eniai than this church on its best teachers and sept them away to be the church’s first foreign mission aries. , , A Personal Study Ah interesting study in personnel is afforded us just here in the historical record as: Luke makes the shift from the .term ‘ Barnabas and Saul” to “Paul and his company” and “Paul and Bar nabas.” Thus the leadership of Paul emerges. From this point his over towering personality dominates the New Testament. His work being large ly among Gentiles, we find his name changing too, from the He brew “Saul” (to the Roman “Paul.” John Mark, the third member of the party cousin of Barnabas, deserted the party as they reached the main- QUALITY MEATS We believe our customers buy meat on confidence.
