Politics Flare In New Campaign (Continued from Page One.) is carried. The power trust, larger banks, hotel monopoly all sound bad. There is a swipe at Mr. Gardner in that. Mr. Fountain, according to the Asheville reports, saw only reaction aries and office-holders in the com mission that drafted this new consti tution. There was one exception—Dr. Clarence Poe, of Raleigh. Dr. Poe spoke in Asheville also and heard Mr. Fountain with a good deal of pleasure, r. Poe likes Mr. Foun tain’s looks. But the Professive Farmer editor thinks the new con stitution will be beaten, if it is smit ten sorely, by the “interests” who fear the unlimited power of taxation vest ed in the legislature witn the six per cent income tax limit removed and the power of classification *nd se gregation granted. Thus the “interests” are trying to pillage and loot North Carolina with a new constitution and the ‘interests’ are trying to prevent decent and honest taxation by defeating the con stitution. If Governor Fountain can make good and put the odium prop erly on the Brookings Institute and Governor Gardner, the ill-fated aspir ant for governor in 1932 may have a better chance against Senator Bailey, who also has been called a “reaction ary” and an office-holder.
