I Miss Grissom Weds Lcandres Clayton , A wedding of much interest was solemnized last Saturday afternoon at five o’clock when Miss Clarice Grissom became the bride of Laendres - G. Clayton. The ceremony was performed at the home of Rev. A. S. Hale and in the presence of only a few friends ■ of the couple. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Grissom. Home for Holidays Miss Dorothy Dorsey, of Raleigh, arrived home today to spend the holi days in the city with her parents. Here For Holidays Miss Eugenia Boyd, member of Mid dleburg school faculty, is spending the holidays at her home on Burwell Ave Christmas Dances To Be Outstanding Santa Claus is going to be very good to members of West End Country Club and their guests this Christmas, bring ing them two big dances, one Thurs day evening, December 26, and the other next Tuesday evening, Dec, 31. Tony Rinaldo and his orchestra will play for the event this week and Billy Groffe will be here to furnish the syn- i copation next Tuesday. Guest cards may be secured from I Sam Alford, chairman of the affairs, and many Christmas visitors are ex pected to attend the events. This season is expected to prove most outstanding to the club, and the members have been assured of a glor ious time by Mr. Alford and his corps of workers. Christmas Meeting For Sorosis Club The Christmas meeting of the Sor osis Clnb was held at the home ot Mrs. P. H. Rose at her home on Charles Street, which was beautiful in its decorations of Christmas greens trees and candles. The study for the afternoon was “A Southern Christmas” and Mis. H. H. Bass gave a very interesting pa per on “Customs Old and New,” and Miss Shannon Morton read so beau tifully “Mary of Nassareth”, a man uscript copy of a story written by Miss Emma L. Hooper of the fac ulty of the Eastern Carolina Train ing School. This story received first prize in the “Best Short Story” con test in our State last year. Miss Jes sie Rose entertained with a Christmas selection. All members present an swered roll call with a Christmas quotation and joined in the singing Christmas carols. Mrs. Crowder, acting as Santa Claus. distributed gifts from the Christmas tree and much merriment was indulged in by the members and guests. Mis. Rose then invited all to the dining room where place cards were arranged at tables and a most de licious dinner was served consisting of a turkey plate and sweet course. Mrs. Rose proved a charming hos tess and was assisted by her two daughters, Misses Jessie and Alice Warrick Rose. Guests for the after noon besides the club members were Mrs. T. B. Rose, Mrs. G. E. Rose. Mrs. James Pigford, Mrs. J. E. Young, and Mrs. H. W. Wells, of Atlanta, Ga. 25th Anniversary For Mr., Mrs Parks A social event of unusual interest in the Gillburg community was the re ception given by Mr. and Mrs. H.. J. Parks at their country home on Sat urday evening, celebrating the twenty fifth anniversary of their marriage. They were married December 21. 1910. The home was beautifully decorated in the traditional wedding colors of white and green, trailing cedar and pine was used in lovely effect in the hall, parlors, and dining room. White candles gleamed throughout the house. With the open fires glowing the scene was one of beauty as well as gracious hospitality. About one hundred friends and rela tives called during the evening to ex press their felicitations to Mr. and Mrs. Parks, who received in the hall, Mrs. Parks was gowned in black lace. Mrs. C. E. Page and Mrs. R. F. Thompson, sisters of the hostess, re ceived the callers and they were reg istered in the guest book by Mrs. A. B. Deans. Miss Ada Page. Jane Thompson, Margaret Fuller, and Ada Rose Yow served delicious punch as the guests passed through the hall. Mrs. Brooks Brummitt and Mrs. J. E. Gill received in the rear parlor where the many and beautiful gifts of silver were to be seen. Passing on into the dining room, where Mrs. M. The time was delightfully spent in social converse tind the happy spirit ; of the occasion and of the Christmas j season as well made the hours from eight to eleven pass delightfully.
