But at that, there was every indication of a White Christmas for Henderson and its environs for I the first time in many years, i The official Weather Bureau rond j ing showed a minimum temperature ; Monday night of 10 degrees, as com ! pared with zero early Monday ntorn • ing, 11 early Sunday and 12 early Sat i urday. The mercury climbed to slight i lv above freezing Monday for the first ! time since last Friday. Shortly be fore the noon hour today, the official reading was 11 degrees. The Weather Man Monday forecast cloudy and eolil weather and probably I snow Monday night. But he changed his mind and puffed the clouds away and brought the stars into clear view in the cold, crisp night air. Anil a warm, comfortable sun shined nearly all day today, in contrast to tho pro mise Monday of cloudy weather. Today’s forecast for Christmas day j was for cloudy weather anil colder. But there was fervent hope that Mr. ! Weather Mail would undergo another change of heart and shuffle out fair weather with a warm sun for the big holiday of the year. The four inches of snow that fell Sunday afternoon and night was still much v evidence today, with every assurance that it would be a white Christmas. It was melting slowly, but by no means will all of it be gone by Christmas day. COUNCIL MEETING WHOLLY ROUTINE Roll Called, Minutes Read, Bills Paid and Meeting Is Adjourned. The monthly meeting of the Hen derson City Council was held at the i regular time Monday But mem bers. all of whom were present, were in no transact business of that sort. The bright, crisp, new bills are. very beautiful and attractive. It is comforting to ringer them and still more comforting to own them. Announcement, was made today by | James O'Neil, of O’Neil’s, Everything I in Hardware, Kelvinator Dealers in Henderson, that the beautiful Model Iv-185 Kelvinator was awarded to i Miss Kate Furman. Mrs. J. T. Alderman, chairman of ; the committee of judges stated that there were many very good letters and that it was difficult 1o make the selection but that it was unamimously agreed by herself and the other : judges. Rev. R. E. Brown, pastor of the First M. E. church, and Rev. j Janies A. Jones, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, that Miss Fur man. lovingly known to the commun ity as “Miss Kate,” submitted the. outstanding letter. Before submitting the letters to the judges each signa ture was cut from the letters and both letter and signature were numbered. The signatures were kept by O’Neil’s ! and the then unsigned letters submit ted to the judges. The selected letter, number 773, was returned to O’Neil’s matched with the signature, and is j now displayed in O’Neil's window. L. L. HAYES DIES OF GUN SHOT WOUNDS I Passes In Local Hospital of Injuries Said to Be Self Inflicted Monday. L. L. Hayes, said to be about 50 years of age and a resident of Man son. died at Maria Parham hospital ! yesterdy fternoon t o o’clock from gun shot wounds tht were said by hospital attaches to have been self i inflicted. Hay es was said to have shot himself J at his home in Manson Monday morn j ing about 10 o’clock, and was brought to Maria Parham hospital sometime ; later, succumbing to the wound just i beneath the heart. The Methodist Protestant Sunday school and the Junior Woman’s Club have taken it upon themselves to carry gifts to the county home and the Scott Parker Sanatorium The Salvation Army, through its Christ mas kettles and other donations, will provide fruits and candies to those confined in tho State Highway Com mission’s prison camp, and provision has been made for those in the county jail, though no names were obtained in this instance. Besides, the .Salva tion Army will play host, to probably -H>o or more children at its Christmas t n.'t' exercises Wednesday evening at its hall at South Henderson.
