However much or little one may I agree with the senator- ·* nd ···. » public questions, it is acff.ited by most people that he is a hard work er anc! a very able man. His phy sician said his present breakdown is the result of overwork md has prescribed a Ienglhv rest. He spent some weeks in the State last fall seeking to recuperate his health, and his absence from the Senate e'r ited caustic criticism from some quar ters. much of which was regarded by many as uncalled for and out of place. For a long time there ha.- been speculation over Mr. Bailey's health, and from a political standpoint thi has carried over into the matter of its possible effect upon his candi dacy for a fourth six-year term in the Senate when he is up for reelec tion in 1948. He is now 72 years old, and if his present ailment per sists may cause him to choose re tirement as the course of wisdom. But, wholly aside from political considerations, there will be con cern over his condition and the uni versal hope that the seriousness of his illness has been exaggerated and that recovery will not be long de layed.
