Stroup left for Char lotte this arternon to be present at the unveiling: of a memorial window in the Church of the Holy Comforter 'n memory cf the late 1 Mrs. E. A. .Smith, who lived in Hickory for sev eral years. The window was made by the .Tif fany Company in New Yoi of the finest workmanship to b,e procur ed in this country and is constructed cf the finest stained gls-ss. Mr. Smith jnade a trip to . New York while th? window was being bail', and saw seme of the work being dene. The window has been placed behind the altar in the sanctuary where i!" shews to the best effect and wh:re it is seen immediately one enters the church. Di-1 i v:?icn of Markets, has prepared a' summary cf the marketirg agreement j and contract now being signed by tobecco -"owers in YTrginia, North j and Soiu.t Carolina.. The contract. which is based upon the results of! successful growers cooperative mar keting association in California pro vides: (1- The Association is strictly j cooperative. (2) Only tobacco far-! mers belong, the association belongs to the farmers. (3) Thre is no stock and there are no profits. Pro-: ceeds are paid back to the farmers) after deducting all expanses of the j treated exactly alike no partiality all sign the same contract. j (5) Good tobacco gets a good i price poor tobacco not so good. (6) j Tha Tobacco Association in not try-1 ing to fix the price but to get-it for the farmer. (7) Farmer agrees to deliver for five years all of the tc-1 bacco hs raises, but h3 may from time! to time grow more, less or none asj he himself chooses. j (8) The contract is binding j there is no w. y to dodge it when once' effective do not forget that, but, itj docs r.ot become effective until th?; growers of 50 per cent of the tobac-i co sign up. Thus the Association1 will not organize unl.ss f lu? fan-nrs themselves demand it. (9) The As-1 sociation will make a substantial ad-j vance payment to the grower at the! time of delivery. (10) The Asso- elation will pool all tobacco and sell I from time to time in large lots. Each ! grower will get his share of the pro-j iecds for the year regardless of the ; price his particular tobacco may j bring. j Handling the Crop j (1) The Association, only with; the consent cf the members, organize 1 a warncusmg coooration in any district or community for curing, dry ing, storing or otherwise handling the tobacco for its members. (2) Only members may own common stock and thi common stock controls the corporation. (3) Preferred stock having no voting power, may b pur chased by any one, and may be re tired later by the corporation. (4) Corporation will be organized for the service of th? Association, on a non profit basis. U) lhe Association intends toi include at present the Tobacco areas j of Virginia, North Carolina and South! Carolina. (2) This tobacco area I will be divided into twenty-two dis-! tricts. (3) The Board of Directors' will consist of one Director from each ! district, and, one from the States of j Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina appointed by th- Governors thereof, to represent the general pub lic, twenty-five directors in all. these control the Association, headquarters, Raleigh, N. C. (4) The." tobacco farmers j mem bers of the Association, at a prima ry election, select delegates to a dis trict meeting. These delegates in each district meet, orfanr,e pnd ei"h a director from each district.
