Ramsey, state organizer cf the China Famine relief fund, spent last night and this forenocn in Hickory in the interest cf the 15, 000,000 Chinese whose lives will be saved if the people of the United States do their part. All the churches of the country are taking an active in terest in the cause and ministers and business men here will name a direc tor for Catawba county and put on a vigorous campaign for aid. Former Governor Bickett heads the state organization as chairman and Mr- Ed B. Crow of Raleigh is treas urer. Tha Rotary Clubs of the state are financing, the overhead expense in Ncrth Carolina and every contri bution made will go direct to the re lief .agencies in Chiina for immediate aid. Fesperman, of Newton, who was called to the pastorate of the First Reformed church last Oc tober, has arrived in the city and will preach, his first sermon as pastor of this church Sunday morning. He tnd his wife and little daughter, Mary Brown, moved into" the parsonage, 364 West Lee street, Friday. Rev. Mr. Fesperman comes to Greensboro net only highly reconi mended, but also more or less well known to the congregation whom he will serve. He has preached at the First Reformed church a number of times, aind he held a series of special services there soon after his call was given. He is a graduate of Catawba col lege the only institution of the Re formed church in the state. Rev. Mr. Fesperman iwall preach Sunday at 11 o'clock and evening at 7:30 o'clock. Greensboro News- The "Womanless Wddingf sche duled for Monday and Tuesday nights at the South school Auditorium will be on? of the hits of the season. Reid and Mrs. Rufus Gwyn of Lenoir, the lat ter president of the district federation of women's clubs, featured the meet ing yesterday afternoon cf the Hick- cry Community Club. A large num ber was present and the meeting was presided oiver by Mrs. W. B. Ram say, president, with Mrs. R. J- Fos ter, secretary, keeping the minutes. Mrs. W. H. Uarkley chairman of the food inspection committee gave a report on the work of her commit tee and Mis. E. B. Menzies for Mrs. J. L. Riddle, chairman, made a re port on sanitation. Mrs. Reid spoke on the subject, "Does ,a Community Club Pay?" ana answered the question effectively in the affirmative. Mrs. Gwyn discuss ed the district meeting in Albermarle on March 30 and 'all local members wtbo will attend are- requested to send in their names to the recording secre tary, Mrs. S. H. Farabee. who will inform the Albemarle committees. The -delegates would be away from Hickory one night- The club endorsed the action of the executive board in undeiwriting the Piedmont Lyceum course for Hickory next winter contributed $100 the proceeds from "Billy "in Japan," to the high school library fund in order to help raise it to the standard required for admission into the certi fied! class of southern ihiigh schools, and voted to split the proceeds from the presentation of the "Woman less Wedding" Monday and Tuesday nights with Hickory post No. AS, American legion.
