In Statesville the other night George Martin, convention publicity manager of the Liquid Car bonic Company of Chicago, with headquarters in St. Louis, told the Coca-Cola bottlers in conven tion there that North Carolina bonds were in greater demand than the bonds of any other state and that HICKORY BONDS STOOD AT THE TOP drlTHE LIST OF MUNICIPAL BONDS IN THAT LRGE CITY. Mr. Martin was not making that statement to a Hickory Audience to win applause. He Was speaking in another good town. In an address last night Ned Wheeler of Asheville, declared that Hickory's substantial, composite growth assured this city of the great est future? of ny town in Western North Caro lina, wHicfiTKe asserted had the eyes of the whole country on it. Mr. Wheeler was speaking to busi ness men. These-'' are two remarkable -and 'convincing, statements b men from the outside who jndge Hickory, by. its; achievements, who know its rcpu tation for progress. i jiii !); Hi . i . ' From these statements, it is safe to assert, we have sold Hickory, to use a phrase employed by a staff writer of the New York Times in re- f erring to North Carolina's aggressiveness, to the outside world. We have sold it to the rest of the state and we have sold it by our steady, consist ent progress. Our past is secure. But what of our future? This advertisement, authorized by the undersigned, is intended to make our people think of the future, to look straight into the future with confidence of their ability to do even greater things. It is intended to rekindle their community spirit, to make them want to do something individually and , collec tively for the BEST TOWN IN THE BEST SEC TION IN THE AMERICAN UNION. :,, ... por one thing we can give the Chamber of. Commerce ideas and wholehearted support. For another thing, we can strive individually to niake this an even better town.
