Broadcasting the Message (From the Rotarian.) Meadows & Co., Inc , of Waco, Tex as, recently issued the following mes sage to their associates and employe: "This company holds membership in Rotary International, therefore each of you is expected to carry this ban ner", representing as you do one unit or link in our organization. As our organization can boast of no greater strength than its weakest link, we are trmnK you bt'low the Rotary Code of Ethics. I'lease study the jrreatest business principles propounded since thf beginning of the commercial life cf this country to the end that our business can boast of a real Rotary organization." (Here followed th. code. In this morning cf th? twen'.ie'h century there is considerable study of business and professional ethics. Practically every business and pro-1 fessional association has commit- j tet s drawing up codes, and al-; ready the results have been appar i en: in various fields. But ethical I cc Its are not confined to individual or even association aifairs. They are : merely guides to a:i ot cur social ana business relations and as such must tv h'oudcasted to be effective. Tl:o hermit crab may be sufficient un: itself but it has little effect on the world's "roress. Rotary member ship has b.vi tiecessRrily limited but tlu r.ota'-y spirit knows neither geo "ti!hical no. classification liini's. There are plenty of good Rotanan whj hnvv never been inside a Rotary li'.i'e. Tlviv is nl.-o much Rotary 111:1 t.'rlsl that only needs guidance to be of aid in supplementing the work of liuiM' who may be meniWrs. That Rotary may be of the fullest us t itself and to the world, each Iio ..in'an nv.ist be an operator broad casting the Rotary message far and wide. The static of misunderstanding nay occasionally interrupt the tn l itg. but if the operators have suprenr.' faith and serenity of soul the world :s aiv:i rcaily to "listen in." A Better Understanding Many years ago, and yet not so long ago, either, a great lawyer In Europe resigned from his profession and gave up the practice of law be-.-ause he said that it was impossible for a man to remain in business and tave his soul. In those days, as unfortunately too often in these days, a man's idea of business was circumvention. That is to say, to succeed one had to be a cleverer cheater than his neighbor. The"-e were of course exceptions. We have seen, all of us, many of the beautiful things made by people in the past who weap exceptions; but in business men haa usually lorgot ten the Golden Rule. Kiwanis has proven to the world that a man can succeed in business and not only save his souL but im prove the quality of his soul by the way he succeeded. The ancient grudge between the "rube" and the city "slicker" has got to come to an end. All the wealth is built on the fruits of the earth, only great cities can give sufficient mar kets for the agricultural produce of ;he land. The farmer and the merchant must work together for the prosper ity of all. Kiwanis, in its work of bringing the merchant and the farmer together, is working to the salvation of our economic civilization. The breach between industry and agri culture has threatened certain trou ble. It is not impossible for the coun try to rise up and destroy the city, for the city is built by men; but the c.ty cannot destroy the country, which was made by God. Announcement At 7:.10 o'clock the Monroe Kivan; Club will meet at Weddington with the men of the community. Supper will be provided by the club aivi a general good time will be enjoyed by all.
