Cards have been issued an nouncing the marriage at the Presbyterian church here on Wednesday, October 25th, at 5 p. m., of Miss Anne Thorn Tipton, of this place, to Mr. Burgin Alexander Wilkie, of Asheville. Cards are out announcing the marriage at Dunlap, Ire dell county, November 8th, of Miss Lillie J. Burke to Mr. William Junius Sloan, of Rowan county. The bride-to- w be is a sister of Mrs. Jno. C. Tipton, of this place. Messrs. Jenkins Bros, re ceived Wednesday, and have on exhibition in their store window, a genuine Japanese hat sent them by a friend from ledo, or Tokio, Japan. must not be left behind, or forgotten. Mr. C. J. Hill, of Cuba, was in townTuesday, and gave us the particulars of the finding of Mrs. Patsy Blankenship dead in her bed last Sunday. Mrs. Blankenship lived all alone in a little cabin half mile from Mr. Hill's since the death of her husband six years ago. Tuesday evening she was at Mr. C. J. Flack's, and started for home, and no one saw her alive after that. On Friday a little pet dog of hers, came to Archie Blanken ship's three times, exhibiting everv sign of destress and could 'not be quieted. This convinced Mr. Blankenship that something was wrong, still they did not go to see. Sunday a daughter of Mr. Blankenship went over, found the door fastened, but went in and found Mrs. Blanken ship dead in her bed. When the door was opened the lit tle dog ran in and getting un der the bed where the woman lay, could not be driven out. It is supposed that she died dows they have afforded much amusement by their propen sity to whirl around in the giddy waltz. How they ever contracted such curious hab its is a mystery. Certainly their antics are interesting and amusing. The construction of the new cotton mill is being rapidly pushed. Another kiln of 300, 000 brick has just been com pleted. To complete the mill, it will require at least one million brick. We are in formed that Messrs.
