The State Supreme Court appears to have gone Repub lican last week in all the po litical cases before it, says the Charlotte Observer. It is to be hoped that the next time the American peo ple make a donation to a hero, they will take the precaution to learn his matrimonial in tentions in advance. , LOroett ana jenries are matched for a scrap in Sep tember. No doubt the event was set so far in advance in order that the contestants might test their lung's by lonirwinded interviews in the c "yellow" journals. There is considerable truth in Aguinaldo's statements that McKinlev is trving in 1899 to prove that George Washington was wrong in 1776, and there are not a few who are inclined to think that the Filipino leader is right. Congress meets on the first Monday in December. Now is the time for Washington correspondents to get ahead of that bodv bv letting the country know before hand many things that will not be done nor even attempted, says the Raleigh Post. but he doesn't know human nature. But the whole busi- ness nas oeen in norriDie taste. There was, first, too much slobbering- over Dewey when he came home. He plaved his part well at Manila and we are not of those who would detract one iota from the record of his splendid ser vices there and the glory and renown to which he is justly entitled. But he is evidentlv not made of the stuff that can fulsome adulation, and the glorv busi ness was overdone when he came home. Then he did a foolish and unwise thing when he accepted the house which a lot of sentimental people had bought for him by subscrip tion, but it he had taken the gift. and stopped there even that might have been forgot ten. But instead he showed unseemly haste in accepting it and had the cheek to ask that it be furnished. Then, to show what a bloomin' goose he could make of himself, he turned round and deeded the house to his wife, who was a wealthy woman in her own right. Now the storm has burst and the admiral is very much hurt. He is so dis gusted that he intimates that he wouldn't have any more old houses if they were handed to him on a silver waiter, and intimates that he may go on the retired list and leave the country. Out in K ansas Exit Dewey. Statesville Landmark. Old Man Dewev is sniffling and whining on account of the flood of criticism which is fall ing upon him because he deeded to his wife the house which was recently given to him, and thereupon, after the storm broke, the madam deeded the house to the old man's son. Dewey says he never would have believed that the people who were making so much of him only a few davs ago could so soon turn around and say such mean things about him, all of which shows that the admiral may be a very capable naval officer lives a happy wife. She writes: " I have used Mother's Friend before two confinements. The last time I had twins, and was in labor only a few min utes. Suffered very little." The reason why Mother's Friend does expectant mothers so much good is because it is an external liniment, to be applied upon the outside, where much of the strain comes. It helps be cause the pores of the skin readily absorb it, and it comes into direct contact with and is absorbed by the parts involved. Morning sickness is quickly banished, and nervousness is kept completely away. The sense of dread and foreboding is not experienced, even xluring labor itself. Confinement is short and almost without pain. Recovery is quick and sure. Best of all, Mother's Friend benefits the unborn just as much as the expectant mother, and when the little one comes it will be strong, lusty and healthy.
