ELOPES WITH HIS PRETTY CLERK.
Mr Geo. Fink, of Salisbury, Goes Away With Miss Bessie Yates They Met in Statesville and Spent Last Saturday in Morganton. The Statesville Landmark f Tuesday says: Statesville is a "quiet vil lage" hut now and then it has it- variety of incidents as well a-s the big cities. Sunday's train from Salisbury brought to Statesville a quiet little woman, Mrs. Geo. Fink, from Salisbury, who was on track of a recreanthusband. From inquiries here she found out where he had gone and de cided to return on the even-in"- train to her homein Salis bury. The facts in the case eem to be about these: Mr. Geo. Fink is a substan tial and well-to do merchant, who came to Salisbury two vears ago from Illinoise and opened a big general mer- i ehandise store there. In charge of his millinery de partment he placed Miss Bessie Yates, who came with Mr. and Mrs. Fink from Cin cinnati. Mr. Fink was doing a big business but rumors that he was unduly fond of his fair clerk finally began to circulate in Salisbury and at last reached the ears of his wife. She remonstrated time and time again, but to no pur pose. Finally, last Thursday, she upbraided her husband in the store, demanding the im mediate discharge of Miss Yates. It seems that this lady became involved in the jangle and was so hurt by the insinuations of the jealous wife that she waltzed herself out, vowing she was going to her home in Cincinnati. When Mr. Fink came home that evening he told his wife that Miss Yates had gone to Cincinnati and that she not worry any more about the matter. The next day the fond husband told his wife that he needed a rest and had decided to make a week's visit to some friends near Moores ville. He packed his grip and took his horse and buggy, in tending, as he said, to drive through to Mooresville. Saturday, however, Mrs. Fink, who seems to have had s us pic ions of her spouse, made snie inquiries of the clerks m the store as to Mr. Fink's thereabouts. The truth 'ime out then. She learned that Pink bought his milliner a ticket to Statesville instead f Cincinnati. Mrs. Fink at 0Ie concluded that he had illowed in private conveyance. She decided to follow and in vestigate. Coming to States ville Sunday morning she went to Hotel Iredell and found the following entry on Thursday night: 'B Yates. N. C." So far she was on the right track. She learned that a gentleman called Friday evening for Miss Yates, took her to drive and later paid her bill and took her with him to the west-bound vestibule that night. A trip to Kerr & Kar cher's stables elicited the in formation that a man named Fink had left his horse and huSSY there Friday night, saying he would be gone on a pleasure trip for a week. Mrs. Fink recognized the horse as hers, and here was proof positive that the guilty parties had been in Statesville. Further inquiry developed the fact that they went to Morganton Friday night and stayed there until Sunday morning, when, learning, it is supposed, that his deserted wife was on his trail, the re creant husband and his shame less inamorata left for Knox- ville, Tenn. They were seen in Morganton by Mr. W. R. Moroney. Fink, as has been stated, is man of wealth, about 45 years old. He leaves his wife and two grown daughters, one of whom was married a short while ago. It is sup posed that Fink's original idea was to go to Cincinnati with Miss Yates and then re turn here and drive through to Salisbury his horseandbug- gy is still here as it just re turning from his visit near Mooresville. But his plans failed and when he returns he will in all probability meet a warm reception. He is known in Statesville, having visited here. The Election Over. -o- QUESTION ANSWERED. Yes, August Flower still ha9 the largest sale of any medicine in the civilized world. Your mothers and grandmothers neve thought of using anything else for Indigestion or Rilious ness. Doctors were scarce, and they seldom- heard of Appendicitis, Neivous Prostration or Heart failure, etc. Thev used August Flower to clean out the system and stop fermentation of undigested food, regulate the action of the liver, stimulate the nervous ana organic action of the system, and that is all they took when feeling dull and bad with headaches and other aches. You only need a few doses of Green's August Flower, in liquid form, to make you satisfied there is nothing serius the matter ith you. For sale by John Tull.
