Christmas just two weeks from next Tuesday. A number of the stores have donned their Christmas attire. .Mr. .W. S. McRary has removed his family from Mor gan ton to Bdtmore, where he is employed in the Biltmore shops. At the regular meeting- of the Jr. O. U. A. M. Tuesday night Mr. James McGimsey was initiated into its mys teries. Mr. J. W. Avery is substi tuting as chief of police of the town for Air. J. M. McGalliard, while the latter is engaged ior a few davs in brick laving at Drexel. Big Loss of Lumber by Fire. Messrs. S. Huffman and D. B. Mull lost about $600 worth Clumber by fire at Drexel, six miles east of town, on Monday evening. Thelumber was being dried in a kiln when it caught. The kiln was built of brick and was a com paratively new one, having been erected only about two months ago,' at considerable expense. It is thought that with some repairs it may be used again. The fire is attri buted to the carelessness of a colored man in charge of the kiln at the time. DECEMBER WRAP SALE. Rev. Thorn well Jacobs, of the Presbyterian church, "The Carnival of Flowers." A very beautiful entertain ment, entitled as above, in which 40 children from six to fourteen years of age partici pated, was given at the Town Hail Monday night, and not withstanding the inclement weather a fairly good crowd attended. Some of the fea tures were the "hoop drill," "the lancers" and a cake walk done by a bevy of pretty little girls. The proceeds, amounting to about $30, go to a fund for maintaining a cot in a Presbyterian mission hospital in China.
