THE FOOL-KILLER, If natural and inherent immortality is the "Great hope" of the human race, as Orthodoxy claims, then I wish you would please tell me what sort of a Boomer, North Carolina, "hope" it was that Jesus Christ urougnv to me worm, uom an speaK BOTH BLUNDER ALIKE. at once. The orthodox leaders of today are in just exactly the same fix as the orthodox leaders of two thousand SPIRITISM ON A BOOM. Anybody that pretends to keep up with these times cannot be ignorant the wide-spread belief in the immor- I tality of the soul, and he goes ahead and impersonates the departed friend from whom a message is expected. The dead person is dead and knows noth ing about what is going on, but if the devil can make people believe other wise he has gained his point. People who beileve in the immor tality of the soul cannot consistently oppose Spiritism, for it merely claims to PROVE what they say they have always believed. How can a person hang on to the BELIEF and at the same time reject the PROOF ? Spiritism has certainly got the or thodox churches in a close place. They will either have to give up their im mortality lie or swallow Spiritism whole, one or ? the other. And I pre dict that this very question is going to split the churches as wide open as a boot-jack. Boys, there is just one plain, simple and easy way out of it, and you just as well acknowledge it and get right without any more fuss about it. Quit teaching your old lie about the im mortality of the soul, and go to teach ing the TRUTH that dead people are DEAD. That will put the fixins on old Mister Satan and his Spiritism racket. What do you think about that case, anyhow? Do you suppose Lazarus was really dead? Ortho Dox Oh, yes, his body was dead. H. T. I didn't ask about his body asked about him. Do you think Laza"his HIMSELF was really dead? O. D. There you go, trying to tan gle me up the first thing. The answer to your question depends on what we consider to be the real Lazarus HIM SELF. H. T. That's it exactly. That's just what I am trying to find out. What part, of Lazarus do you think was his REAL SELF? O. D. Well, my preacher has al ways told me that the soul is the rea person, and that the body is just the house that the person lives in. H. T. Well, suppose you take your preacher's word for it and consider Lazarus's soul as the REAL Lazarus then you don't think the REAL Laza rus was dead, do you? 0. D. No, I guess not. Of course his soul was alive in heaven. .H. T. But didn't Jesus tell his dis ciples that Lazarus was dead ? What did lie do that for? Why didn't he tell them that Lazarus's HOUSE was dead? Don't you think Jesus left wrong impression by saying that La zarus was dead when he knew that he was not? 0. D. Oh, he said it that way be cause that was the common manner of speech. People just SAID that a man was dead when his body died. H. T. But if that manner of speech was misleading if it really wasn't true don't you think Jesus would have known that it wrasn't true? O. D. Yes I guess he must have known that it wasn't true. H. T. Do you mean to tell me that Jesus knowingly became a party to a smart enough to take advantage of j deliberate and wilful falsehood?. MARCH, im O. D. I Ithere you go again, trying to catch me in a 'trap. H. T. No, I am not trying to catch you in any trap. I am just asking: plain and reasonable questions, and if you make false answers and tangle yourself, that is none of my lookout. O. p. Well, go on. I'll try to keep my answers straight from now on. H. T All right Now. tell me this. It says that "Jesus wept" when m came and found the sisters and friends of Lazarus weeping. . Now if Lazarus was in heaven, alive and happy and all right, what in the world was Jesus .weeping about ? Why didnt he ex plain to Mary and Martha that their brother was alive and happy in heaven and that there was nothing to cry about ? THEY evidently believed that their brother was. DEAD, and that was why they were weeping. If Jesus knew that their brother was not dead, why didn't he tell them so ? It seems strange that Jesus would have over looked such a good chance to comfort the sorrowing sisters. But instead of doing that, he joined in and wept with the others. Can you give any reason able explanation of such strange con duct ? O. D. No, I don't believe I can. It does seem strange. H. T. Indeed it does. And here is another strange thing about it. Jesus asked, "Where have ye laid him?" He didn't ask where they had laid his old hull, but "Where have ye laid HIM?" Wasn't that mighty strange talk to be having about a man who was alive in heaven ? nd then when he got ready to restore Lazarus back to his friends, where, did he go to find him? O. D. He er er er I reckon he went to the tomb. H. T. That's right he went to the tomb. And he told them to roll the stone away from the mouth of the tomb. It seems strange that he would have done that if he knew Lazarus was not in there . And then you re member he called with a loud voice and what did he say? Did he say, "Lazarus, come down from heaven and crawl back into your house of clay?" O. D. No, I have to admit that he didn't say it that way. H. T. You are mightly right he didn't. What he DID say was this!: "Lazarus, come forth," indicating that he was to come out through the open ing that had been made by rolling the stone, away. There was not a word said about him coming down from heaven. It says that he came forth bound hand and foot with grave clothes. Now what was it that came forth bound in grave clothes, and where did it come from? O. D. I I I reckon it was Laza rus's body and it came out of the tomb. H. T. It does not say a word about either the BODY or the SOUL of La zarus, it is talking all the time about Lazarus HIMSELF, and it shows plain enough that the entire being all there was of him came forth out of the tomb. If any part came from anywhere else there is nothing said about it. Can you . give any good rea son why Jesus would have talked so much about the old dead house that Lazarus had lived in ,and even raised it from the dead and presented it back to its family, and all that and yet never said a word about the REAL Lazarus that was alive up in heaven ? I say, can you explain it? O. D. Yah yah yah you old mean thing!
