The fire started early Sunday Two other cousins were badly burned in the blaze. Don nie McGuiro, 17. whose home address* was given as 224 Vance Street. Wilmington, died at 9 22 a.m. Monday at the Columbus County Hospital from third degree burns all over his body. George Robert Hyrd, 18. of '.'<14 Lake Avenue. Wilming ton, is listed as being in poor to-fair condition al the N. C. Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill· Harry Heaves, also 18 and ceusin to the other two boys, is in poor condition at Columbus County Hospital. All suffered from third degree burns. A report stated thai the three boys came to the home of an uncle. Roslon B.vrd. late Sat urday for a visit. The home, located north of Hallsboro. was empty, the hoys entered the house, and the boys later fell asleep. They awakened to find the interior of the living room, in which they had been resting, on fire. All three managed to rseapo. but wore badly burn ed. They entered their auto and started to Whiteville to the hospital. As they approached US 74-78 at the Piece & Co. store on the Hallsboro-Elkton road. George Robert Byrd's hands were burned so badly I hat ho could not turn the steering wheel, causing the car to cross the highway, strike a utilities pole, and come to a Mop.
