Notice is hsreby given that in
“pursuance and by virtue of a decree
in the above entitled causes of the
above entitled Court, dated January
9th,i908, and of a writ of venditioni
exponas, dated January ioth, 190S,
issued from and under the seal of
said Court therein to me directed,
I the undersigned Special Master in
Chancery, appointed for the purpose,
will sell at public sale, to the highest
bidder for cash, under the terms

factory for the manufacture of sugar,
located in the barrio of Canovanas,
municipal district oí Loiza, Porto
Rico, together with and situated on
twenty (20) cuerdas of land, being
equivalen! to seven (7) hectares,
eighty-seven (87) ares, seven (7)
centares, and nine hundred and thir
ty two one-thousandths (.932) of
another, and being bounded as fol
lows: On the west by the Rio Gran
de de Loiza: on the north and east
and south by the lánds belonging to
the estáte “Punta,” which formerly
belonged to the firra known as “Suc
esión de Don Jorge Latimer y Com
pañía,” but which, on the twenty
second day of February, 1884, bel
onged to the said Canovanas Sugar
Factory, Ltd., said twenty (20) cuer
das being wifchin the area of that
which was formerly the estáte “Pun
ta” and which comprises not only
the said land and new buildings
coustructed thereon of iron aml wood
for the erection of said factory, but
also all its mackinery, milis of triple
power and a vacuum pan; with all
appurtenances and accessories, toge
ther with a railway, with its material,
movable and immovable, and all
other appurtenances and construc
tions located and found thereon.
(2) Also the estates known as
“Punta” and “San Ysidro,” situated in
the barrio of Canovanas, municipal
district of Loiza, Porto Rico, which
estáte is composed of said lands of
the above mentioned plantations
“Punta” and “San Ysidro” with an
area of one thousand six hundred
and ninety-four and eighty-nine one

on the date of said mortgage, to wit:

ed to Don Javier de Zequiera on
the south by the River Canovanas
and the lands which formerly belong
ed to the “Sucesión Sánchez” or “Sua
rez”, but which at said date belong
ed to Don José Rodríguez Soler; on
the east by the same plantación “Ca
cique” and lands belonging to Don
; Agostino Casado; on the west by the
Rio Grande de Loiza, together with
all of the buildings macbinery. tools,
crops in cultivation, cattle, utensils.
and ?11 other appurtenances and
property located and found upon all
of the foregoing property. and which
lands, as aforesaid described, const
itute the total area of one thousand
seven hundred and fourteen and
eighty-n ine one hundred-ths
(1,714.89) cuerdas, or six hundred
and seventy-four (674) hectares, one
(1) are, ninety-seven (97) centares,
and eight hundred and twenty-five
thousandths (.825) of another, a more
particular description of which is as
follows:
Beginning at a point on the east
ern bank of the river Rio Grande in
the district of Loiza, near the central
factorv of Canovanas at a point where
a certa in canal which separates the
estáte “Cacique” of the Canovanas
Sugar Factory from the laüd of the
Sucesión de Javier de Zequiera ñows

Se oía rechinar el argano, en el aire tran
quilo. Gomo los escollos estaban al descubier
to por la marera baja, el perfume de las algas
ascendía por la costa, venciendo en fuerza y en
frescura á todos los efluvios de la colina fecun

aspirando la fragancia embriagadora, pare
ciendo completamente dominada por aquella
sensación intensa que la hacía agitar las na

rribilidad trágica sin límites. Había tenido ya,
por primera vez, la visión vasta y confusa de
aquella gente para él desconocida, de aquella
carne miserable, llena de instintos y de dolores
bestiales, encorvada y sudorosa sobre la gleba,
ó agazapada en el fondo de los tugurios, bajo la
amenaza continua de aquellas continuas po
tencias. Descubría una violenta agitación hu
mana entre la dulce riqueza de la tierra por él
elegida para teatro de su amor y le ocurría co
mo si descubriese un burujón de insectos en la
masa de una cabellera magnífica impregnada
de aromas. Le poseía aquel mismo horror que
había experimentado otras veces al contacto ó

The terms and conditions of this
sale are as follows, is to say:
said sale to be conducted and made
in accordance with the rules and
practice of and subject to, con
firmation by this Court,and to satisfy
the amount due and to become due,
as in said decree provided, including
principal and interest, as well as
costs and a master’s fee, and the
several sums therein allowed to be
paid or so much thereof as the sum
received for such property upon
such sale will permit being paid.
The amount of the net principal debt
for which said property is being sold
is ¿131.865 —17—11, (Sterling), toge
ther with interest thereon from the
3oth day of September, 1906, and the
cost of this Court, the amount of
the costs and the master’s fee
not being yet taxed or fixed.
The complainant, New Colonial
Company, Ltd., may become the pur
chaser at such sale and it may use
and apply, in making payment of the
purchase price. all or any part of the
said indebtedness due to it, in the
manner and to the extent as in said
decree provided. Provided, however,
that as to all persons other than com
plainant, no bid will be received at
such sale unless tne bidder shall
offer to pay cash, and if the bid is
accepted, pay in cash in gold coin of
the Unites States to the Master, at
the time andplaeeof said sale, a suf
fieient sum to pay the cost of this suit,
together with the costs and expenses
of executing this decree and of mak
ing said sale, and each and all of the
allowances made and provided in
said decree or this notice, to be paid.
Upon completion and confirmation
by this Court oí said sale, the Master
Martes 28 de Enero de 1908.
Noticias diversas
El viernes en la cárcel de Maya
guez, se nos informa trató de sui
cidarse el preso Candelario Perez,
colgándose de una viga con su propia
camisa. El referido preso había sido
encerrado en una bartolina por faltas
cometidas en el penal, y al ir no
empleado á llevarle el almuerzo, lo
encontró colgado y afortunadamente
dió tiempo á que el empleado pudieia
cortar la camisa y salvarle la vida.
El Alcaide de la cárcel tan pronto
como tuvo conocimiento del hecho
mandó á buscarlos facultativos quie
nes prestaron sus auxilios al infeliz.

El individuo José Centeno (a) Mo*
jeque ayer tarde en la calle Alien
esquina á la de la Cruz, estando en
estado de embriaguez promovió un
fuerte escándalo, por lo que fué
conducido á la cárcel municipal, y
condenado hoy á sufrir treinta dias
de cárcel.
En la Corte Municipal han sido
condenados hoy por hurto de menor
cuantía, Eloy Ocacio y Juana Ro
mero.

Esta mañana fué condenado á su
frir treinta días de arresto el indi
viduo Juan Díaz, porque en la tarde
de ayer promovió un fuerte escán
dalo en la calle de San José.
