UNITED NATIONS WIN IN SO'E PLACES
SUCCESS IN SICILY

'ast month United Nation soldiers invaded the island of Sicily. They
fought the German soldiers and•the Italian soldiers. The German soldiers
f and thR I ' Galian soldi rs were defeated badly. The United Nations soldiers
I drove the Germans and Italians from the Island of Sicily after thirty eight
days of fighting. Manv Germans and Italians 'were killed and one hundred
thousand were taken prisoner.
Mussolini was the leader of the Italians.in Italy. When the Italian
soldiers were defeated in the island of Sicily Mussolini resigned. •When
wu.sso.Lini resigned., anotner Italian leader which is called King appointed
another Italian General wro is called Badoglio in place of Mussolini. Many
Oj. the Io&li.-.n peop.Le do not want war. General Badoglio said they must
continue lighting. Some of the Italian people ‘are making trouble because they
ask vainly for peace.
The airplanes 01 the united nations have continued to bomb Italian
cities, ahe city 01 home was combed. last month. it has been bombed, again
this month. Other cities which have Ven bombed are Naples, Turin, and'
Bologna.- ~
GETMANY IS BOMBED
Our boncers have flown over Germany matey times again. Some of the
great cities of Germany have been completely destroyed. The people of Berlin
are leaving the city because they are afraid.
BUS SIAN SOLDI' F:S SUCCESSFUL
Uussian soldiers and the German soldiris are still fighting a great
battle. La st month they were fighting near a city called Orel. 'The-Russians
recaptured this city. Now the fight is for a city called Karkov. Orel was
v ' 1 - important to the Germans because it is a. railroad and supply town.

The Javanese had a big air field at a place- called Munda. ' General
MacArthur wanted to capture the air field at Munda. He dis not want to lose
-;an me n. General macAr their had hus airplanes drop bombs on the Japanese
every ray for many days. The warships also bombarded Munda. with bis: guns.
After a long time the soldiers cf General MacArthur attacked with tanks and
