You'll hear about it everywhere. I will refer to this $90,000,000 that is being talked about for us. We are all talking about it. But we talk as though we thought that the Navahos themselves will get the whole 90 milliort. As I think about it, and about the jobs to be done, I realize that we do not know enough trade skills. We do not have the skills. There will be a great number of buildings constructed. There are many dif ferent skills involved in putting up-buildings. There is electrical work and wiring, plumbing, plastering, interior finishing, carpentry work, and outside painting and fin ishing. That's what goes into a building. Our skills are not up to that work. Probably the only money we'll get will be from pick and shovel work. The other workers will be people who are skilled, or who have been train ed in school. The well-paid positions will go to people from the outside: to white men, Mexicans, Negroes, and other Indians who have been trained for such work in school. So it looks as though a lot of that money has already slipped away from under us. That happens be cause of our condition. Any argument we might put up (Continued on page 2) OCTOBER 1, 1949
