The Mother 's and Home Mak
ers Club will sponsor a St. Pat
rick's Bridge, Pinochle and
"Whist Party on Tuesday eve
ning, March 11th at 8 o clock
The party will be held at the
North End Community Center,
1800 Main Street.
. There will be six beautiful
prizes given: two first, two sec
ond, and two boobies.
The elub is sponsoring this
card party in order to raise
funds to carry on its many civic
duties.
Since its organization the
club has contributed to the fol
lowing: The National Negro
College Fund, The Red Cross,
The March of Dimes, The Times
and Courant summer camps, and
clothing for the needy.
If you haven 't purchased
your ticket do so at once. They
are fifty cents each. Come out
and win a prize.
Mrs. Eugene Shaw is chair
man of the Program Committee
and Mrs. Marshall Wood is
club president.
CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY
AND ANNIVERSARY
On Saturday evening, March
1st, Mr. Henry Gordon ofs152
Enfield St. celebrated his birth
day and his first wedding anni
versary by entertaining friends
-with a delightful party.
The guests played games, re--cordings
and danced while nib
bling nuts and enjoying cock
tails. An appetizing plate con
taining pickles, cheese, celery,
potato salad, potato chips, sand
wiches and olives was served.

Mrs. Virginia Hayes of 74

friends at her home on Satur
day, evening, March 1st.
Private Norman Turner of
20 Roosevelt St. has returned
home from the U. S. Army, and
is awaiting.final discharge. Pvt.
Turner was stationed at Hick
man Field in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Mrs. Esther DeLoach Watson,
a formei student of the Boston
Conservatory of music, and- of
the late Nellie Carey Reynolds,
announces the opening of a
voice studio at 520 Garden Sfc
Mrs. Watson at present doing
advanced vocal study under
Ivan Veliknoff of New York
and Hartford.
Mr. and Mrs. Embry McMil
lan of Faneuil St., Wilson, are
the proud parents of a daugh
ter, Leona Marlene, born on
Thursday morning, Feb. 27th
at the Hartford Hospital.
TENNIS CLUB DANCE
In spite of the fact that the
Tennis Club had to postpone
their dance recently due to the
blizzard, they put it over with
a bang on Friday evening, Feb
ruary 28th.- The affair took
place at the Hartford Saenger
bund Hall on Washington St.
Hodge Davis' orchestra fur
nished the music.
The affair was well attended ;
the ladies were lovely; and all
present expressed themselves
as having had an enjoyable
time.
Mrs. Ruby Marshall, poular
socialite and outstanding bridge
enthusiast, was given a surprise
birthday party by her husband,
John D., at her home, 37 Suf
field St., Wednesday evening,
March 5th. During the eve
ning a host of Mr. and Mrs.
Marshall's friends joined the
relatives in celebrating the
event, remembering the honoree
with useful and beautiful gifts.
WAHENES MEET
The Wahenes Bridge Club
met Saturday evening, March
1st at the home of Mrs. George
Clinton of Martin St.
All members were present
and as usual enjoyed themselves
by playing bridge and discuss
ing topics ' of current import
ance. The first prize was won by
Mrs. Albert P. James, the sec
ond by Mrs. John D. Marshall.
The club meets the first Sat
urday in each month. Mrs.
Thomas Borders is the president.

Miss Sophie C. Morgan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew
Morgan of Rockville, Conn., and Mr. Edwin Thompson, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Thompson of 28-A Bellevue Square, were
married in the Rectory of Shiloh Baptist Church by Rev. R. A.
Moody, on Feb. 14, 1947.
Miss Lila Morgan, sister of the bride, was the maid of
honor' and Mr. Frederick Turner was the. best man.
The bride wore a navy blue tailored gabardine suit that
accentuated the lovely lines of her outfit. The groom was
dressed in a navy blue serge suit and wore a white boutonierre.
