The eigth annual concert and ball of Putnam council, E. of C , at the Town hall, last Thursday evening, wag largely attended and a success in every w.iy. The music of the evening was excellent, fur nished by Gilmartin'g orchestra of Beth el. The grand march Btarted about 9 o'clock, and was led by Ex-Senator Mich ael J. Houlihan and Hiss Kate Hourigan. They were followed by Frank W. Kirby, the assistant grand conductor, with Miss May Haugh of Bridgeport as bis partner The reception committee of the evening consisted of John F. Houlihan, J. T. Sheehan and H. A. Costello. Those in charge of the floor arrangements were Frank W. Kirby, P. H. Kohler, P. F. Keating, J. F. McNamara, Judge M. J. Bradley and M. L. Jordan. The execu tive committee was composed of Judge M. J. Bradley, John F. Houlihan, J. F. McNamara, Frank W. Kirby, M. J. Keat ing and M. H. Li'lis. Supper was served durmg the intermission at the Grand Cen tral hotel, and a large number partook of the excellent spread prepared by Mine Host Houlihan. "A Stream of Silver Moonlight," , Geibel, New York Male Quartet This is the third entertainment in New town's winter course, which is conducted under the auspices of the Men's Literary and Social club, an organization of New town gentlemen, who in bringing such a course before the people, are trying to give something tnat will be a thorough credit to the town. They believe that ihey have succeeded. The annual meeting of the ecclesiasti cal society of the Congregational church was held on Monday evening. The total receipts for the year were $1606.52, with small balance after paying all bills. These officers were elected : Clerk, John J. Northrop ; society's committee, O. B. Taylor, W. M. Reynolds, M. C. Rodgers ; treasurer, Levi C. Morris ; auditor, Alli son P. Smith. Mr and Mrs F. F. Hawley entertained in royal fashion on New Year'a day. Among tbe fortunate guests were Mraad Mrs Georee W. Anthony, A. H. McMa- hon and daughter, Miss Carrie, Andrew McMahon, Miss Nellie McMahon, Mr and Mrs George H. Lines, Miss Martha Mc Mahon and Mrs Reynolds, all ot New Milford, Mrs George McMahon, Mrs S. C. Glover and Curtis Glover. A choice dinner was served," with a turkey as the central attraction. It was unanimously voted "that it was good to be there." The directors of the Newtown fair are pleased over the fact that our fair is to receive 9175.14 from the State.
