The high speed of living, togeth er with the increasing seriousness of the servant problem, is driving man to desert the comforts of an old fashioned home in favor of the modern hotel. That is the dictum of the Hotel Men's Mutual Benefit association which convened in Chi cago yesterday. The influence of this new movement is' being exten sively felt in Rock Island, states Carl J. Mueller, proprietor of the Harper house, a member of che as sociation, who declares that his establishment is even now filled with Rock Island residents who ' have given up their homes and j even spacious apartments in order ' that they might be free from the! detail of maintaining a borne. I Mr. Mueller, who has lust -re turned from a toar of several large cities, says that in many placss t wealthy residents have engaged wnoie floors, paying , exorbitant rates, rather than suffer the annoy-1 ances and inconveniences of house keeping. He believes the movement will continue. Better Service. People are demanding more and better service in all hotels, how ever, he states, and this will be one of many questions discussed at the hotel men's association. A school for the training of stewards known as the Lewis training school has already been established by the as sociation, in Washington, D. C, and plans will be made this year to And a permanent location for the school and to enlarge it to include departments for the training of bellboys, clerks, waiters, maids and doormen.
